Jeff Foxworthy was raised in a typical Baptist home and recalls accepting Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at age seven but was cautioned by his mother who wanted him to grow up and properly understand the meaning of what he wanted to do. But after persuasion from Jeff and a visit from his Pastor, Jeff was accompanied by his mother to the church. Even though he was a complaint Christian, Jeff had a problem living by what he considered the “strict rules” often imposed by the church.

Jeff attended the Hapeville High School and after graduating he enrolled at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. Upon graduation from Georgia Tech, he worked for the next five years alongside his father at IBM in the mainframe computer maintenance unit.

According to Jeff, it was his coworkers at IBM who urged and prodded him to chase his dream as a stand-up comedian by entering and winning the Great Southeastern Laugh-off at Atlanta’s Punchline Comedy club in 1984.

This win was the springboard which his career needed. He released his first and probably best comedy album in 1993 You Might Be a Rednek. It was subsequent releases in 1995 that earned him a Grammy nomination for the Best Spoken Comedy Album. While his Television debut came when he appeared in the Jeff Foxworthy Show in 1995 which was a sitcom which mirrored his stand-up comedy personality.

His career dwindled a bit in the late 90’s but he made a resurgence in the early 2000’s as a result of his Blue Comedy Tour. The Blue Comedy tour was an off shot of the comedy troupe he formed alongside fellow comedians Bill Engvall, Ron White, and Larry the Cable Guy. They toured from Nebraska all the way to Washington DC, over a period of six years.

Foxworthy has authored books including You Might Be a Redneck If… in 1989, his autobiography No Shirt, No Shoes, and No problem which was released in 1996. He is known to be an avid lover of hunting, a passion he developed as a teen hunting with his father at his farm property in Georgia.
