It is one thing to portray one of the funniest characters in sitcom history, but it is a whole different ball game to portray three. Jeffrey Tambor is best known for playing George Bluth in Arrested Development, Hank Kingsley in The Larry Sanders Show and Maura Pfefferman on Transparent.

Biography & Age

Jeffrey Tambor grew up in a Jewish home with parents, Eileen and Bernard Tambor. He was born on the 8th of July, 1944 in San Francisco California. The man who would grow up to play a transgender man on television was born to a conservative Jewish family in San Francisco, California. Thankfully for Jeffrey Tambor and the rest of the world, he was one of the few people who found their passion early in life and pursued a career in it.

He grew up with a passion for acting and went on to study acting at San Francisco State University after graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School. While most people would rest on their Bachelor’s degree especially for a career in acting, the young actor took it further and got a Masters degree at Wayne State University.

He finally left the classroom and moved to professional acting in 1972. He started out as a theatre actor, appearing in plays at Milwaukee before making his Broadway debut in 1976 in the play, Sly Fox. Before landing his first big break, Jeffrey Tambor appeared in a host of TV shows and a couple commercials with each new gig giving him the exposure and leverage for his big break.

When he landed this first major role as Hank Kingsley in The Larry Sanders Show, Jeffrey Tambor was already an established Hollywood actor and he was ready to take his career to the next level. During his time on the show, he was nominated for four Emmys but unfortunately, he didn’t win any. The show ran from 1992 to 1998.

Before he got another chance to portray another iconic character in Arrested Development as George Bluth Sr, he continued to star in various movies and TV Shows, including The Lionheart which he got a Daytime Emmy nomination for. For his role in Arrested Development, he received two Emmy nominations and also lost both.

Throughout his career, Jeffrey Tambor has continued to appear in various projects in all acting mediums –from animations as a voice artist to theatre, television, and movies. Unsurprisingly, His filmography reads like a CVS receipt. He has appeared in various modern classics like Archer, The Hangover trilogy, Trolls and most recently, The Death of Stalin.

He finally won an Emmy award for his role in Transparent as Maura Pfefferman, a Jewish transgender. For his performance on the show, he also earned himself a Golden Globe Award.

Not a man to limit himself to acting, he’s also an author, having written a memoir, ‘Are You, Anybody? A Memoir’ in 2017. He also teaches a class for actors at his Alma mater.

Wife Or Spouse

Jeffrey Tambor has been married thrice. His first marriage was to Dora Zbierlund; the couple got married in 1982 but got divorced in 1991. They share a daughter from their marriage. Jeffrey later got married to Katie Mitchell in 1991 but the relationship ended in 2000. The couple had no kids.

Jeffrey married his third and current wife, Kasia Ostlun, in 2001. The couple has four children together, twin boys – Hugo Bernard and Eli Nicholas, a son – Gabriel Kassper and a daughter –Eve Julia.

Sexual Harassment Allegations

In the wake of the #MeToo movement, actress Trace Lysette, and makeup artist, Tamara Delbridge accused Jeffrey Tambor of sexual misconduct when they worked together. The actor denied the allegations but followed it up with a public apology. He subsequently left his role on Transparent as a result. No formal charges have been laid against him and he has continued to deny the allegations despite accepting he was sometimes difficult to work with due to his anger issues.
