Jerick Thomas McKinnon was born to, Frances Mckinnon and Rungie McKinnon in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, on the 3rd of May, 1992. For his high school education, he studied at Sprayberry High School which is located in Marietta, Georgia. While at the school, Jerick joined the football team where he excelled with his ability to play three different positions, wide receiver, quarterback and running back, comfortably.

In his junior year, he earned the title, MVP, for the National Underclassmen Ultimate 100 and was named Region VII AAAA Player of the Year. In 2009, when he was in his senior year, Jerick picked up Cobb County Touchdown Club Quarterback of the Year honors after he had rushed for 1,300 and passed for 1,500 yards.

Collegiate Career

After graduating from high school, Jerrick Mckinnon proceeded to further his studies and build up a collegiate career in football at the Georgia Southern University in 2010. When he first started with the team, he was assigned the role of taking care of the chores needed to be done for the players. Having proved himself a dedicated young man, he was later used as a slotback and quarterback for the 2010 campaign.

In the same year, he completed a 430-yard rush on 109 attempts with a total of three touchdowns. He also did well to clinch the very first score of his career when his team played against Savannah State. Also, for a brief period, he held the record for the most rushing attempts in a single match after he made a 182-yard mark in a total of 35 attempts at the Citadel. In 2003, during the match against South Carolina State, Jerick Mckinnon was very instrumental in leading his team to their third-highest rushing total with 323 yards covered.

Getting to his senior year in 2013, Jerick aided his team to clinch a majority offense of 10 touchdowns and 576 rushing which went on record to be the highest single-game totals in NCAA Divison. In his final year with his team at the Georgia Southern University, he recorded a consecutive 1,000 yard rushing season, four passing scores, 1,050 yards (6.5 avg) with a total of 12 rushing touchdowns. He was later invited to the prestigious Reese’s Senior Bowl where he was honored as the “Iron Works Dedication Award winner,” making it the third time he would be winning such an award.

Professional Career

After his college career, Jerrick Mckinnon was then drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 3rd round (96th overall), making him the 7th running back (RB) to be selected that year. Though he played in only 11 games with six season starts, he was the MVP who led the Vikings to a 4.8 yard per carry average even as a rookie. He experienced a setback in his rookie campaign due to a back injury which meant he had to sit out the game on injured reserve on the 6th of December 2013.

He luckily caught his first career pass from a one-yarder in 2014. He was opportune to start his first career game, playing against the Detroit Lions just 6 weeks after joining the Vikings. The game ended with him running 42 yards on a total of 6 receptions as well as 40 yards on 11 carries. Another back injury occurred, causing him to be put on injured reserve. Nevertheless, Jerick Mckinnon managed to finish the season with 135 yards and 538 rushing yards.
