Jerrod Carmichael is set to be the next big African American act to make it from the Comedy Store in West Hollywood to the big screen and beyond since

The multi-talented American stand up comedian, actor and writer, whose unique style of comedy is delivered through social commentary and personal insights, is best known for creating and playing the lead role in the semi-biographical sitcom titled The Carmichael Show.

Jerrod Carmichael Bio

Jerrod Carmichael was born on the 22nd of June 1987 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He was raised by his parents along with an older brother, Joe Carmichael Jr. in the Morningside neighbourhood of the city. His mother, Cynthia, worked as a secretary while his dad, Joe Carmichael Sr, was a truck driver.

Carmichael attended the Robert B. Glenn High School, graduating in 2005. It was during his high school days that he started honing his comedic craft and learning how to speak publicly. In fifth grade, he was able to host a morning news show on his elementary school’s local access channel.

In 2008, a few years after graduating high school at the age of 20, Jerrod moved to Los Angeles to embark on his acting and career in comedy. He tried his hand in stand up comedy there before ever having attempted it. Having grown up poor, Carmichael has often used it as a topic in his stand-up comedy. His first show was an open-mic night at The Comedy Store in West Hollywood. He worked his way through many other clubs for a few years before getting to appear and perform at the “New Faces” showcase at the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival in 2011.

In 2014, Carmichael got his breakout role, appearing opposite Seth Rogan and as a Delta Psi Beta member in the comedy Neighbours. That same year he was on the TV show The Goodwin Games before Spike Lee came on board to direct his HBO special, Jerrod Carmichael: Love at the Store, which was filmed at The Comedy Store.

In 2015, Jerrod Carmichael delved into TV production as he wrote and starred in his own sitcom on NBC titled The Carmichael Show. The sitcom followed a fictional version of Carmichael and his immediate family members as they tackled societal issues mostly centred around black people as well as other current events through a comedic eye view. The show featured fictional representations of his father Joe who was played by David Alan Grier, mother Cynthia played by Loretta Devine, and brother Bobby played by actor and comedian Lil Rey Howery. Other characters include Jerrod Carmichael’s girlfriend turned wife, Maxine who was portrayed by Amber Stevens West, and Bobby’s estranged wife Nekeisha played by Tiffany Haddish.

The show received rave reviews and was praised for pushing the envelope on political and racial topics throughout its three season-long run. The show ended in June 2017 after Carmichael announced he was leaving to pursue other projects. It is unclear what exactly those other projects are but Jerrod had, during the airing of the third season of the show, released a second HBO special titled Jerrod Carmichael: 8, on March 11, 2017. This one was filmed in the New York Masonic Hall’s Grand Lodge Room and directed by comedian Bo Burnham.

Jerrod Carmichael’s other works include Neighbours 2: Sorority Rising (2016), Transformers: The Last Knight (2017), Comedy Bang! Bang! (2013), Lucas Bros Moving Co (2014-2015), and so on.

Carmichael sights legendary stand-up comedians Richard Pryor, , Sinbad, and George Carlin as his early comedic influences.

Net Worth

All of Jerrod Carmichael’s work both on the big screen and on TV has contributed a lot to his net worth. It is estimated that the North Carolina born comedian is worth $1.5 million.

That estimation is set to be heading upwards, thanks to his rising popularity and the new projects which he is embarking on. Rumour also has it that he is working on a Netflix special which handsomely pays.

Jerrod Carmichael Girlfriend

Jerrod Carmichael is definitely an eligible bachelor but with all his focus on growing his career, it is unlikely that he would have time to maintain a serious relationship. Also, with him being a very secretive person, not letting the public know much about his personal life, you should not be surprised if he is indeed in a loving relationship. There is, however, no information of a past girlfriend or a dating history.
