Growing up in Maracay, Venezuela, Aguilar said he played around in the neighborhood, getting involved in all sort of sports from indoor soccer to playing baseball with a rubber ball out in the streets. But he took a special interest in baseball that at the age of four he was already into the game. He started off as a third baseman but now plays as the first and sometimes a left field.
Career
At the age of seventeen, he signed as an amateur free agent with the Cleveland Indians and would spend his first two seasons with the Dominican Summer League Indians of the minor league. In 2010, he split his playing time between two minor league teams and during the 2011 season, he hits twenty-three home runs between the Kinston Indians of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League and the Lake County Captains of the Class A Midwest League.
In 2012, Jesus Aguilar and Puerto Rican player Francisco Lindor represented the Indians at that year’s All-Star Futures Game after that, Aguilar was invited to the 2013 spring training as a non-roster invitee. He began his 2013 season with the Akron Aeros of the Class AA Eastern League and recorded a total of sixteen home runs, one hundred and five runs batted in(RBIs), twenty-eight doubles, and a .275 batting average. His RBIs that year was the highest in the history of the Akron franchise, following his stats, he was added to the Indians 40-man roster in November 2013.
He began his 2014 season with Columbus Clippers of the Class AAA International League, batting .298 with 7 home runs and nineteen RBIs in thirty-seven games before he was promoted him to the major leagues in May of the same year but the following month, he was moved back to the Columbus after playing eight games with the Indians.
Aguilar remained with the Columbus until July 2015 when he was promoted back to the major league. During his stay with the Columbus in early 2015 season, he was named the International League’s starting first baseman in the Triple-A All-Star Game. The following season (2016), he led the International League with ninety-two RBIs and thirty home runs.
These records notwithstanding, in January 2017, the Indians designated Aguilar for assignment. The next month, the Milwaukee Brewers claimed him off waivers. After a very impressive performance during the 2017 spring training, Aguilar earned a space on the Brewers’ Opening Day roster. That season, Jesus Aguilar played a total of one hundred and thirty-three games with sixteen home runs, fifty-two RBIs, .331 OBP, with a .265 batting average.
During the 2018 season, he batted .307 with twenty-three home runs and sixty-seven RBIs, winning the NL’s Final Vote for the 2018 MLB All-Star Game. He also got an invite to participate in the Home Run Derby which he accepted. He finished the season hitting .274 with thirty-five homers and one hundred and eight RBIs.
