Jim Carrey was born James Eugene Carrey on January 17, 1962, in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. His parents are Percy Carrey and Kathleen Oram. He is of a mixed ethnicity as his father is originally from a French-Canadian ancestry while his mother is of Scottish, French and Irish descent. He is the last of four children. His older siblings are John, Patricia, and Rita. His nationality is Canadian and he attended Aldershot High School, Burlington, Ontario.

As a young boy, Carrey loved show business. In school, he would be given opportunities regularly to do standup comedy for fellow pupils with conditions that he would keep mute all day in class since he was such a talker. As a teenager, the financial state of his family took a bad turn and they had to move to Scarborough, where his parents and siblings took odd jobs to ensure their survival. Shortly after his family was up on their feet, Carrey returned to show business and quit school to develop his talent as a comedian. He did standup comedy in local clubs for years before he summoned the courage to further his career in the United States.

In 1979, comedian Rodney Dangerfield saw Carey perform at a comedy store and employed him to work for a season. Carrey did other odd jobs but wanted more so he decided to delve into the world of acting. He wasn’t so successful at the beginning of his acting career. However, he made a major breakthrough when he starred in the Jack Bernstein’s 1994 film Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and from then on, superstardom beckoned. He starred in other movies in the same year such as The Mask and Dumb and Dumber and they were all acclaimed success and catapulted him to fame while earning him his first award nomination.

The next year, 1995, he featured in Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls, a sequel to the first and like the former, it was a box office success. Other movies Carrey has turned up in include Batman Forever (1995 ), The Cable Guy (1996), Liar Liar (1997), The Truman Show (1998), Man on the Moon (1999),  Me, Myself & Irene (2000), How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000), Bruce Almighty (2003), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004), The Number 23 (2007), Yes Man (2008), I Love You Phillip Morris (premiered January 2009 and released February 2010), among others.

Jim Carrey was inducted into the Canadian Walk of Fame in 2004 and the same year he became a legal US citizen. In 2013 he wrote a book entitled, How Roland Rolls. Carrey has since then starred in several other movies and has also been more involved in standup comedy.

Jim Carrey married Melissa Wormer in March 1987. She was a waitress when they met and he fell in love with her. Sadly the marriage ended in 1995, but they had a daughter together. Carrey got married the second time in September 23, 1996, to Lauren Holly, his fellow actress and ‘Dumb and Dumber’ co-star. However, the marriage did not last up to a year before he was divorced again.

After his divorce, Jim Carrey got involved in romantic relationships with other women. In 2005, he fell in love with Jenny McCarthy. Their relationship lasted for five years and ended in April 2010. In 2012, he began dating Cathriona White and made their relationship public. The Irish-born makeup artist and stylist accused him of infecting her with a dangerous STD. The relationship ended the same year but was rekindled in 2015. However, a few months later, they broke up again, leaving Ms White devastated.

Jim Carrey’s only child is his daughter with his first wife, Melissa Wormer. Her name is Jane Carrey and she was born on September 6, 1987. Jim Carrey’s talents as a comedian-actor have earned him an undisputed reputation in Hollywood. Although he had been a standup comedian for years, his fame began in 1990 on the Wayans brothers sketch comedy show. Jim Carrey has received four golden globe nominations and won two. He has an estimated net worth of $150 million. The man who became popular for his ability to make facial expressions, stretching his face to degrees beyond human comprehension, stands heads and shoulders above every lady and most men in pictures. He is about 6 ft 2 tall.

While Jim Carrey is still very much alive, his one-time partner and girlfriend, Cathriona White is not. She was found dead in September 2015 at her Los Angeles apartment due to a prescription drug overdose in an apparent case of suicide. White, who is a make-up artist started dating Carrey in 2012 in a start-stop relationship. She was known to be battling with depression and had always threatened suicide in her personal notes and on social media accounts since 2012.

But following her death, Carrey has had two lawsuits slammed against him by her husband; Mark Burton, who she was still officially married to at the time of her death even though they were going through a divorce; and her mother, Brigid Sweetman. Both lawsuits accuse Carrey of making the prescription drugs available for Cathriona White to use in ending her life. And even though Jim Carrey came out with a statement of his own to denied any wrongdoing leading to his girlfriend’s death, he will still face trial in court according to a judge’s ruling in June 2017.
