American Stand up Comedian Jim Gaffigan is an expert at cracking jokes especially those that have to do with eating habits and parenting. Gaffigan is also an actor, scriptwriter and producer.

Jim Gaffigan’s Biography

Born on July 7, 1992, in Chesterton, Indiana, Gaffigan attended Lumiere School in La Porte, Indiana before proceeding to Purdue Universtiy for only one year transferring to McDonough School of Business; an affiliate of Georgetown University from where he graduated with a degree in Finance in 1988.

After his graduation, he moved to New York in 1990 to pursue his comic career. He started off working for an advertising firm but to keep his dream alive, young Gaffigan would attend acting classes after work hours. It was during his acting class that he was given the challenge to do a live stand-up comedy show and from then on he fell in love with the stage. Although it took him about 7 years to find the right comedy style that suits him, the comedian finally settled for using a high-pitched voice in the third person to deliver his jokes which he calls the voice that relates with the audience.

The comedian’s career took off when after performing on The Late Show with David Letterman in 1993, the host made him an offer to develop a series for the Letterman production company World Wide Pants. The series was not as successful as the comedian would have expected nevertheless, he was able to land roles in other shows and films which include: That ’70s Show and Sex and the City in 1998, Third Watch in 1999 and Ed in 2000. He also starred in the film The Love Guru alongside actor Mike Meyers and was featured in the sitcom Law & Order.

He was in the teen comedy 17 again and Sam Mendes comedy Away We Go. His comic work was included in comedy central’s animated series Shorties Watchin’ Shortie and in October 2005, he was featured in a live comedy central show that became his comedy album Beyond the Pale which was primarily about the comedian making a mockery of Americans’ bad eating habits and the possible consequences. His next album was released in 2009 after his ‘The Sexy Tour’ and he called that one King Baby.

The comedian has been nominated 3 times for Grammy Awards for his comic works which include Jim Gaffigan: Mr. Universe which was nominated for best comedy album in 2013, his 2014 comedy film titled Obsessed ranked at first place on the Billboard Comedy Album charts and was nominated for best comedy album in 2015 and Cinco which was nominated for best comedy album in 2018. He won an award at the American Comedy Awards for Concert Comedian in 2014 and in 2015 he won an Emmy award for Outstanding Morning Program on the CBS Sunday Morning show. Gaffigan was named the most popular comedian in June 2016 on Pandora.com with spins to the ton of 647 million.

As a writer, Gaffigan has released two books namely: Dad Is Fat and Food: A Love Story. He is also known to be a voice actor and his work includes voicing an animated Duck Duck Goose and a version of himself in Pale Force. He has also voiced characters on shows like Bob’s Burgers, Word Girl and Star vs the Forces of Evil which are all animated works.

This talented comic star is the son of Michael A. Gaffigan and Marcia Gaffigan. He is the last of six children born to his parents.

He got married in 2003 to American actress Jeannie Gaffigan and the couple have five beautiful kids together named: Marre, Katie Louise, Jack, Patrick and Michael. Gaffigan together with his wife and kids are Catholics and he affirmed his religion on stage and said that they attend St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Manhattan. The comedian is said to share a very tight bond with his family as he usually takes them along during his tours and stays home on Sundays to spend quality time with them. They are currently living in New York City in a house which is much bigger than the 2 bedroom flat which was the theme of The Jim Gaffigan Show, a series that showed how they raised their 5 children in a 2 bedroom apartment.
