American professional basketball player Jimmer Fredette had an amazing college career that saw him being selected as the 10th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. However, Fredette would not shine long in the NBA before crossing the seas to China where he rediscovered himself with the Chinese Basketball Association’s Shanghai Sharks. Follow us as we reveal more about the point/shooting guard.
Jimmer Fredette’s Bio
Jimmer was born James Taft Fredette on February 25, 1989, in Glens Falls, New York to Al and Kay Fredette as their third and last child. Jimmer has two siblings, an older sister named Lindsay who won the 1998 Miss Teens New York Crown and an older brother TJ.
Jimmer’s athletic side became apparent at a very early stage in his life. Thankfully, he received full support from his parents and siblings. His brother TJ would invite his friends over and play with him at the family courtyard, his mom built a dribbling studio for him in their basement and even allowed him to bounce the ball in the house while his father took him on occasional road trips so he could play with tough competition.
Jimmer’s skills with the basketball developed so quick that by the age of 5, he was already making 3-pointers. His NBA future was apparent for all to see and his brother TJ couldn’t help but boast about it on the streets.
Playing in the shooting guard/point guard position, Jimmer Fredette went on to become the star player of his Glens Falls High School’s basketball team. He made it to ESPN’s list of top 75 shooting guards and was his school’s all-time leading goal scorer. In his senior year, Fredette attracted attention from 12 schools and he chose BYU, his sister Lindsay’s alma mater. BYU is also considered as the flagship school of the Fredette’s family church; the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints aka Mormon.
Jimmer Fredette went on to stage an incredible college career at BYU breaking a handful of records. AP, Sports Illustrated and a number of notable sports media named him the National Player of 2011. Fredette was also the recipient of the year’s coveted ESPYs Awards for Best Male Collegiate Athlete.
His Salary
Jimmer was originally selected by the Milwaukee Bucks in the 2011 NBA Draft but was later traded to the Sacramento Kings. In his next 3 years with the side, Jimmer earned a salary of over $6 million. However, his promising NBA career developed a hiccup which saw him hop around a couple of NBA teams including the Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, New York and Westchester Knicks. Jimmer would later find his place in the Chinese Basketball Association after he signed with Shanghai Sharks in early August 2016. He earned $1.1 million in his first year with the Yao Ming-owned side before signing a $1.8 million in 2017.
Is He Married Or Gay? – Wife
Jimmer Fredette is not a gay man and never has been. He is married with kids and constantly gushes about his wife across his social media pages. Fredette is married to Whitney Wonnacott, his college sweetheart. Their wedding held on June 1, 2012, in the Denver LDS Temple, which is located just a few miles away from Jimmer’s hometown of Littleton, Colorado.
Their love story is one that has been heard of more often than not. During Fredette’s sophomore year at the Bringham Young University, he became smitten by a certain freshman cheerleader that would be Whitney.
Their relationship blossomed by the year and three years was what Jimmer needed to clear all his doubts that Whitney was the love of his life. He popped the question to his cheerleader girlfriend on the 27th of August 2011, after which he took to Twitter to make public his excitement after Whitney said Yes. “I’m officially engaged everyone. She Said yes and she was completely surprised! It was perfect!! #perfectnight,” the jock shared on Twitter.
On the day of their wedding, Jimmer equally took to Twitter to make known his excitement, writing; “Wedding Day today! Ready for the best day of my life with @whitwonnacott!”
Years have passed since the couple’s marriage and judging by the frequency at which Jimmer posts cute snaps of his family online, it is obvious that the pair is going strong.
Whitney who was born on the 16th of April 1990 holds a degree in broadcast journalism from BYU. She completed her internship at a television station in Salt Lake. In February 2017, they welcomed their first child, a daughter whom they named Wesley. Jimmer had to skip the first game of the CBA playoffs to be by his wife’s side as she birthed their first issue.
