American TV host and comedian, James Christian Kimmel aka Jimmy Kimmel has an enviable career, to say the least. His interest in radio/TV began in his high school days when he would host shows on the school’s radio station.

He transitioned into TV in 1997 and got his first break as a comedian on the Comedy Central game show “Win Ben Stein’s Money.” Right before the new millennium would arrive, Kimmel had snapped a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show Host.

After producing a couple of shows on Comedy Central, Jimmy left to join ABC where he focused on his new self-titled show that would bring him international recognition. Today, Kimmel is known for hosting numerous awards shows from the Emmys to the Oscars.

Jimmy Kimmel Family: Wife, Baby, Son

Jimmy Kimmel has been married twice. His first marriage was to Gina Maddy in 1988. It lasted until 2002 when they divorced. The union produced two kids; Kevin and Katherine.

Afer a long-term relationship with fellow comedian Sarah Silverman which lasted from 2002 to 2009, Kimmel began dating Molly McNearney, a co-writer for his show. They got engaged in August 2012 and tied the knot about a year later in July 2013.

The couple welcomed their first child together, daughter Jane on July 10, 2014. Their son William “Billy” John, arrived on April 21, 2017.

Unfortunately, the baby was born with a rare heart condition known as tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) with pulmonary atresia. Detected three hours after his birth due to the appearance of a purplish coloring, Kimmel’s son had to undergo surgery.

That brings the total number of Kimmel’s kids to four, two from each of his wives. The family lives in a $2.2 million mansion in Hollywood Hills, California.

Net Worth: $35 million

Jimmy’s biggest money maker is his ABC self-titled show which mints him not less than $10 million annually. However, the numbers were nowhere near that when he first started in 2003. In his first year on the show, Kimmel earned $1.7 million.

Fortunately, his comic skills sat well with the coveted 18-49 demographic and consequently his ratings rose, swelling his paycheck as well. Kimmel used social media to his advantage by posting clips of the signature segments of his show on his YouTube channel which soon garnered over 4.5 billion views.

Kimmel, in 2009 earned $6 million from the show. He penned a three-year contract extension with ABC in May 2016. By February 2017, Kimmel’s show had aired for 14 seasons to became the longest running late-night talk show in ABC’s history.

His success on his eponymous show has attracted other hosting as well as non-hosting gigs his way. For five consecutive years, he hosted the American Music Awards. These additional gigs help to bolster Jim’s earnings.

For hosting the 89th Oscars in 2017, he received $15,000. He reprised his role in the 90th edition in 2018. Kimmel has also earned as a voice actor, lending his voice to a number of animated characters. Some of his animated films include; Road Trip (2000), Garfield: The Movie (2004) and The Boss Baby (2017).

Weight Loss

Jimmy Kimmel used to be a fat guy, fans of his Jimmy Kimmel Live! which premiered in 2003 would still have pictures of a fat Jim in their heads. However, in 2010, when he had weighed up to 208 pounds, he decided to do something about it.

Kimmel adopted a weird diet plan called 5:2. What does that mean? Well, the 5:2 diet means that Jim gets to fast for two days of each week (he chooses Mondays and Thursdays) when he eats very little food – not more than 500 calories.

Lunch for those two days can include apple and peanut butter, sometimes egg whites and when he can’t seem to control his hunger, a plate of oatmeal.

Here’s the good part: for the other 5 days, Jim in his words gets to “eat like a pig,” anything from steak to pasta and even pizza. While renowned doctors like DR Oz have expressed their skepticism about the diet, it did work for Kimmel who dropped at least 25 pounds and even looks muscled despite not doing much exercise.

Kimmel now weighs about 182 pounds.
