Jinder Mahal is a name to reckon with today in the annals of elite wrestling. The Indian-Canadian wrestler started his professional career with independent wrestling promotions before he was signed by the WWE in 2010. His career has seen him form scripted alliances with the likes of The Great Khali, and as part of the wrestling triumvirate 3MB.
After a two year hiatus from the WWE, he returned in better physical and fighting condition and since then, he has only moved up facing the likes of Randy Orton and defeating him in a Backlash event to clinch the WWE Championship title in May 2017. This made him the first Indian wrestler ever to win the title.

Mahal was born Yuvraj Singh Dhesi on July 19, 1986, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Born into a wrestling family, it is not surprising that he decided to tow the same path from a young age. Dhesi trained at the Martial Arts Fitness Center in his home city of Calgary, under the tutelage of Ric Bognar, Allen Coage, and Gery Morrow. Subsequently, he joined the Prairie Wrestling Alliance (PWA) where he made the PWA Championship title his own beginning in 2008 until January 2010.
In early 2010, the Canadian wrestler signed his first WWE deal with their developmental wrestling promotion, Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW). With the FCW, he performed under the moniker, Jinder Mahal.
After the dissolution of the FCW and its replacement with NXT, Mahal took part in the maiden edition of the developmental promotion’s Championship title match where he lost to . Moving on, Jinder Mahal formed a three-man wrestling team with WWE main roster stars Drew McIntyre and Heath Slater. The group went on to win the likes of the team Co-Bro (Santino Marella and Zack Ryder) in the Survivor Series pre-show and on several other occasions.
On April 6, 2013, Jinder took part in the André the Giant memorial battle royal as the 27th entrant. He was eliminated by Mark Henry. On June 12, 2014, the wrestler’s WWE contract was terminated.
He continued to fight at the independent wrestling promotion Reality of Wrestling (ROW). Mahal appeared in their events such as the IPPV and the 2014 ROW Summer of Championships. He also appeared in the indie Puerto-Rican promotion, the World Wrestling Council, the Japanese indie promotion – Inoki Genome Federation (IGF) and was first runner-up in the Qatar Pro Wrestling Souq Waqif Championship tournament in April 2015.
Jinder Mahal made his way back to the WWE on July 27, 2016, and a few days later, fought with former 3MB member Heath Slater in a scripted match that saw him defeat Slater to win a new WWE contract.
Following his elimination by Mojo Rawley from the 2017 edition of the André the Giant battle royal, he appeared on SmackDown Live after he was drafted in the Superstar Shake-Up. Here, he would lose to Rawley again before finally defeating him on April 8 in a six-pack-challenge along with other stars like Dolph Zigler and Sami Zayn.
Mahal then started to interfere in ‘s fights with the help of the Singh Brothers. One time, he attacked Orton and made away with his WWE World Championship belt. He was eventually forced to return it by on May 2, 2017. Eventually, he won Randy Orton fair and square in a six-man tag-team match a week later. He would defeat Randy again later in the month in a Backlash event to take the WWE Championship title from him, becoming the 50th recognized winner of the title and the first of Indian origin.
Jinder went on to successfully defend his title twice against Orton, first in a Money In the Bank match and second in a Punjabi Prison match which he won with a little help from The Great Khali. The Indian warrior continued to win title defense matches against the likes of Baron Corbin and . He would finally lose it to on November 7, 2017.
Beginning in early 2018, Jinder began a scripted feud with Randy Orton and the United States Champion Bobby Roode.
