The American baseball prodigy Joe Mauer has been famous for his role as the first baseman for the Minnesota Twins of the Major League Baseball. Joseph Patrick Mauer was born in St Paul, Minnesota on the 19th day of April 1983 to American parents. Growing up, Mauer was a three-sport athlete, he participated in baseball as well as basketball and football atSt. Paul’s Cretin-Derham Hall Raiders High School where he made his first start in his baseball career.
While playing for his high school team, Joe was able to set a high school record and also tied the national preps records by hitting a home run in seven consecutive games. He won the 2000 World Junior Baseball Competition held in Canada and the following year, he was named the US District V Player of the Year.
Professional Baseball Career
Following his impressive high school career, Joe Mauer declared for the Major League draft of 2001. He was finally picked by the Minnesota Twins as the first player to be selected in the draft. He played the first three years in the minor league for the Elizabethton Twins, Quad City River Bandits, and New Britain Rock Cats before proceeding to the Major League. Joe further made his first professional appearance for the Twins in April 2004. His rookie career was cut short following a knee injury he sustained. The baseball star became the first catcher in baseball history to reach an average of .347 in 2006.
