John Abraham is not just known for his exceptional roles in Bollywood films, he is also popular as one of the hottest looking young actors in the Indian entertainment industry.

The actor who is also a producer and a former model is best known for his appearances in most Hindi films and is best known for starring in commercially successful films like the 2013 political thriller spy film Madras Cafe; the 2013 biographical crime film Shootout at Wadala and Force 2, an action spy thriller film, which happens to be his latest so far. His debut film, however, is Jism, an erotic thriller directed by Amit Saxena in 2003 where Abraham was cast as Kabir Lal in the film.

Biography (Age)

Abraham was born in Kochi, Kerala, India, on December 17, 1972, to a middle-class family with a mixed religious and ethnic heritage. He grew up in Mumbai and had his first education at Bombay Scottish School before moving to Jai Hind College to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree in economics, he then received his MBA from the Mumbai Educational Trust.

Career

Abraham did not begin his career as an actor but as a model, thanks to his amazing physique and macho looks. He appeared in a number of music videos including the song of Punjabi singer Jazzy B. Other videos where he appeared include Hans Raj Hans, Pankaj Udhas and Babul Supriyo. In the beginning, he was mostly used as a substitute for models who didn’t show up for a shoot and was requested by his boss to complete the campaign. Soon, he became a demand himself and even modeled for notable companies in Hong Kong, London and New York City.

While doing this, he worked as a media planner for an ad agency Enterprise Nexus in Mumbai. His major turning point, however, was in March 1999 when he participated in the Gladrags Manhunt in which he qualified for the finals and went to the Philippines and was declared as the first runner-up. He also appeared in a number of commercials like the Cinthol and did an ad campaign for Levis to became the first Asian model for the brand.

Abraham’s acting career actually started after he took up acting at the Kishore Namit Kapoor acting laboratory. There, he completed his course and made his debut appearance as “Kabir Lal” the poor, alcoholic and wayward lawyer in the erotic thriller film, Jism. Nearly immediately after, the young actor made his second appearance as Dr Akash “Akki” Bhatnagar in the horror paranormal romance film Saaya. He acted alongside great and exceedingly beautiful Bollywood actresses like Tara Sharma who is also The Tara Sharma Show host; and the former model and actress Mahima Chaudhry. Other films he appeared in include Dhoom, Paap, Lakeer – Forbidden Lines (all released in 2004), Garam Masala (released in 2005) and Taxi no 9211 (released in 2006).

The success of the film Dhoom further brought him to the limelight as it was rated the third highest-grossing film of the year and with that, Abraham gained a Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role nomination. Today, the John Abraham has won many more awards such as the 2005 Zee Cine Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role for Dhoom, the 2005 IIFA Best Villain Award for Dhoom, and the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in the role he played in Water, among many others. His active roles in Indian movies together with his modeling career has earned him about $25 million as net worth. Aside from his acting and modeling roles, John has a boutique that acts as a production center for advertisements and films.

John Abraham’s Family, Wife and Religion

John was born into a multi-ethnic and multi-religious family with his father, Abraham John being a Marthomite Syrian Christian from Aluva, Kerala, while his mother, Firoza Irani, is a Zoroastrian Parsi. In fact, he was named Farhan by his mother while his father named him John. Despite the differences in his family’s religious background, John considers himself a very religious person but he has refused to associate himself with any religion in particular.

He has a younger brother whose name is Alan Abraham, and a cousin named Susy Mathew. His father is a well-known architect who owns the AJ (Abraham John Architect) firm, while his mother is a homemaker. He appears to be closer to his mother and her family than he is with his father, however, John noted that his father was very influential in his successful growth. He refers to his parents as the best one could ever have in the whole world.

John got married to his beautiful wife Priya Runchal in 2014. She is a financial analyst and investment banker whom he probably met in the USA and secretly married her there. Prior to his marriage with his current wife, John has had a nice relationship with Bipasha Basu who like him, is an actress and a model. The two dated for close to a decade and were often referred to as a “super couple” by his fans in the Indian media. Their relationship ended in 2011.

Currently, John Abraham has no child with his wife Priya but they seem to be enjoying each other’s company as they are often seen together at important events. Meanwhile, in 2016, the couple was rumored to have serious issues which could lead to their break up, but in a recent interview, John addressed the matter, saying all is well in his Paradise.
