John Avlon is a foremost journalist, Senior Political Analyst, and Anchor at CNN. He is the erstwhile Managing Director of the Daily Beast as well as an Associate Editor of the New York Sun.

John Avlon was born on the 19th of January 1973 to John Jeffrey – a real estate executive/lawyer – and Dianne Alexander. He is of Greek descent with grandparents who were immigrants.
He got his early education from Milton Academy in Milton, Massachusetts and then his bachelor’s degree from Yale University. After he graduated, he went on to get an MBA from Columbia University.
After his university education, he worked as a speechwriter for Mayor Rudolph Giuliani. At that young age, he was already preparing the Mayor’s State of the City addresses to Congress on Homeland and Security as well as to the UN General Assembly on Counter-terrorism, this was from 1991-2001.
Avlon also lectured at Yale University, NYU, the Citadel, the Kennedy School of Government, and the State’s Department’s Visiting Journalist program. In 2008, he was promoted to Director of speechwriting and Deputy Policy Director for Giuliani’s 2008 Presidential Campaign.
He became a senior fellow of the Manhattan Institute, as well as an advisory board member of the Citizens Union of New York, Bronx Academy of Letters, and the Theodore Roosevelt Association.
Due to his speechwriting skills, he joined the Daily Beast immediately it was launched in 2008, starting first as a Columnist. In no time, he rose through the ranks to become a political editor, executive editor, and then the managing director. By 2013, he was appointed editor-in-chief and by September 2014, the unique visitors of Daily Beast website reached a record high of 21 million. Its social media community was high by as much as 300% while the readership went up by 60%.
In May 2018, he left the Daily Beast and moved to CNN where he currently serves as a Senior Political Analyst and Anchor.

John Avlon is in a happy marriage with , a political talk-show host, gay rights activist, and author of American Individualism: How a New Generation of Conservatives Can Save the Republican Party. She is the great-granddaughter of President Hubert Hoover.
The CNN man met Margaret Hoover during Rudolph Giuliani’s Presidential campaign in 2008. They dated for a year and finally exchanged their marital vows on November 7th, 2009.
The two are blessed with two beautiful children – a son, Jack Avlon and daughter Toula Lou. They cherish every moment spent with them. Avlon always takes time off to celebrate his kids. He celebrated his daughter’s first day in pre-school and he took a whole day off to celebrate his son’s birthday.
