After winning the role of Creet in a Blue Peter competition, Bell made his television debut as Creet in Doctor Who’s 2007 episode “Utopia.” Two years later, he starred as Connor in award-winning director Chris Roche’s short film Transit. That same year, Bell starred in his first feature film, A Shine of Rainbows, as a young orphan named Tomas. From 2009 to 2010, he played Anthony Weaver in BBC One’s comedy series Life of Riley, and from 2010 to 2011, he played Toby Coleman in Tracy Beaker Returns, a BAFTA-winning children’s television series.

Bell played Robin Le Mesurier in the BBC’s made-for-TV film Hattie in 2011. In July 2011, he was named one of the top 12 British rising stars by the now-defunct youth casting website Screenterrier. The following year, he played Helius in Wrath of the Titans and Angus in Battleship, both science fiction war films. He later played Billy Bempsy in the History Channel miniseries Hatfields & McCoys. In early 2022, Bell headlined the Off-Broadway revival of Obie winner David Drake’s one-man show The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me. The play, set in the midst of America’s AIDS epidemic, will be performed at London’s New Wimbledon Theatre until February 2022.
