The Big Bang Theory has been a grooming ground for exposing new comedy talents and one of such talents is John Ross Bowie. The nerdy comedian has been a recurring character on the show since the third season, playing one of Sheldon Cooper’s () nemesis. However, while he’s mostly known for playing Barry Kripke, he has an extensive body of work on other television shows and an all-around entertainment career. John Ross Bowie’s Bio

John Ross might not be a household name yet, but he has achieved such success that many aspiring Hollywood comedians would envy. His life journey started on May 30, 1971, when he was born in New York City. We do not know his parents’ identity nor do we have information about his childhood life. However, due to his speech impediment, there is a possibility he was bullied as a child.

For his education, he studied and graduated from Bayard Rustin High School for Humanities in 1989. From there onwards, he attended Ithaca College in New York and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts in English and Education. His life as an entertainer started when he was young. We don’t have the specific year, but we know he was part of a pop-punk band called Egghead. He was in the band along with Mike Fallon and Michael M.B Galvin.

His move to films and television started in 2000. He had a minor role in the road sex comedy, Road Trip. He also played multiple roles in the television show, Upright Citizens Brigade, a sketch comedy show. Since his appearance in his first film project, he has appeared in multiple film and television projects, though he has mostly appeared in TV shows. He has to his credit, appearances in shows like Joan of Acardia, Happy Family, CSI: NY, A.U.S.A, Reno 911, Wizards of Waverly Place, Family Guy, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Glee, etc.

In 2009, he started appearing in The Big Bang Theory as Barry Kripke, a physicist who is a co-worker of the boys (Sheldon, Leonard, Rajesh, Wolowitz). His role on The Big Bang Theory sees his character locked in a rivalry with the rest of the main cast. His introduction onto the show was in a robot fight against the guy’s robot, M.O.N.T.E, which the guys lose to Kripke. However, he has a speech impediment which makes him a butt of the guy’s jokes especially in season five.

As a recurring character on The Big Bang Theory, John Ross Bowie has time to engage in other projects and he has taken advantage. Since The Big Bang Theory, he has guest starred in other projects like Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Burn Notice, Bones, House of Lies, and Fresh off the Boat. He has also featured in a couple films like He’s Just Not Into You, The Heat, and Between Us.

He got his first chance in a leading role on the comedy, Speechless. A family sitcom series about the DiMeo family. John Ross plays the family’s patriarch, Jimmy DiMeo Sr.

Outside of television and film appearances, John Ross’ comedy performances include sketch comedy performances at the Uprights Citizens Brigade Theater in New York and Los Angeles. At Uprights Citizens Brigade Theater, he worked with Rob Corddry, Seth Morris, and Brian Huskey in a sketch troupe called “The Naked Babies”.

John Ross Bowie is also a writer. He has written articles for the New York Press and Go Metric. He has a book to his name, Heathers, based on the cult movie of the same name.

Parents, Wife, and Family

At the moment, there is no available information regarding his parents. His ancestral history, however, makes us believe he had Scottish and Irish parents who relocated to New York.

As for his marital family, John is currently married to a fellow comedian, Jamie Denbo. The couple has been married since 2004 and they have two children, a boy, and a girl.
