Johnathon Schaech has been in the entertainment arena for over two decades but has not lost his aura and charm in any way. He burst onto the scene as the singer, Jimmy, in That Thing You Do! film band The Wonders (a.k.a. Oneders) in 1996. Since then, he has shown incredible versatility as an actor. Of German, French, English, and Italian origin, Johnathon Schaech was born on the 10th day of September 1969. Schaech was raised a Roman Catholic in Edgewood, Maryland. He stumbled into acting while studying economics at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMBC). He took one acting class which proved to be a step in the right direction as he would later foster a career in acting in the long run. While in school, he also belonged to the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.

Schaech was born to Joe, a Baltimore City law enforcement officer, and Joanne Schaech, a human resources executive. He has a sister named Renée. Following his education, he sought for the big life and pursued his desire for stardom. He heeded his father’s advice to aim higher, ditching Chippendales, a dance troupe who offered him a job and flew him to Los Angeles in 1989, to sign with Wilhelmina West. For the next three years, he did commercials and received some minor parts in movies and at the same time, he also studied acting until 1993.

Some of his early acting projects include How to Make an American Quilt (1995), ‘s directorial debut That Thing You Do! (1996), the Australian comedy, Welcome to Woop Woop (1997), Hush (1998), Houdini (1998) where he played the titular character and Woundings (1998) as a British military man. For his role in the latter film, Schaech won the Best Supporting Actor at the 2001 New York International Independent Film & Video Festival.

In 1996, Vanity Fair featured him as one of the most promising leading men of tomorrow on their cover along with actors , and Benicio del Toro.

He also appeared in Finding Graceland and Splendor in 1999. Upon entering the new millennium, Johnathon landed his first major play role in 2000 as a Colombian gay man named Manhattanite who was dying of AIDS in A Question for Mercy. From then, he would go on to star in a number of other notable films as well as TV shows. He filmed the role of the eponymous character in ABC’s Judas in 2001 but the project was eventually released in 2004 after ‘s The Passion of Christ which starred in the lead role.

In 2002, he had an uncredited role in the film The Sweetest Thing, co-starring , and Selma Blair, as well as starred in Kiss the Bride. Schaech proceeded with the 2005 film Sea of Dreams and was also cast in CBS’ Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas. He followed it up with the 2006 film, Little Chenier which won the best picture and best ensemble at the Phoenix film festival. The same year, he joined the cast members of Lifetime TV film Angels Fall.

He took the lead role in the 2007 Sony’s remake of Prom Night for which he received an MTV award nomination for best villain which was eventually snagged by ‘s portrayal of the Joker. The Syfy film Quarantine followed in 2008 and the action indie 5 Days of War in 2011. In 2013, Johnathon Schaech appeared in the submarine thriller Phantom which also starred  and was cast in a recurring role in the first season of the TV series Ray Donovan as Sean Walker, an eccentric movie star.

His other films and TV works include The Legend of Hercules (2014) where he played DC Comics Jonah Hex, Quantico (2015), Texas Rising (2014), Legends of Tomorrow (2016), an episode of Blue Bloods in 2016, then Day of the Dead: Bloodline and Reprisal in 2018.

Apart from acting, Schaech has also done some works behind the scene such as writing screenplays alongside Richard Chizmar, and production. Some of their works include Heroes (2002), Road House 2 (2006), and Showtime’s Masters of Horror The Washingtonians (2007). Moreover, he is accredited as an author; his first book is titled Rick Dempsey’s Caught Stealing.
