Growing up, Jon Jones played American football, just like his brothers did but wrestling took the centre stage in his professional life. He fought Andre Gusmão at UFC 87 and won by unanimous decision having displayed takedowns and unorthodox strike patterns hitherto unseen in the sports. Jon fought the likes of Stephan Bonnar at UFC 94, Jake O’Brien at UFC 100, Brandon Vera at UFC Live: Vera vs. Jones, former IFL Light Heavyweight Champion Vladimir Matyushenko at UFC Live: Jones vs. Matyushenko who he defeated by TKO with elbows in 1:52 secs of the first round. The once feared fighter was charged with a felony for injuring and abandoning the injured person on purpose. Around that time, he gave an for the events of that night and all that played out in his head; mainly fear of being charged by the police for driving drunk.
