Before Jon Rahm was even born, the crème de la crème of the golfing sport like and were already known names. Still, Jon has managed to make his own success. He has burst onto the scene and has left no doubt in anyone’s mind about his potential. It is impossible to disagree that Jon has a long and successful career ahead of him.

Jon Rahm’s biography

Jon Rahm may be living his dream in the United States but he was born in Barrika, in Basque Country, Spain, on November 10, 1994. Rahm moved to the US for his college education. Here, he attended Arizona State University. While there, he played for the school’s golf team, the Arizona State Sun Devils. It was here that young Rahm started to make his mark. He set a collegiate golf record of winning eleven tournaments. A record that was bested only by ‘s 16 college tournament wins.

In the 2014 edition of the Eisenhower Trophy, he emerged the individual winner. Perhaps the biggest accolade of Jon Rahm’s amateur career is that he is the only golfer ever to spend a record 60 weeks at the top spot of the World Amateur Golf Ranking. His first stint started on April 1, 2015, and lasted for 25 weeks. He would later lose the top spot, regain it and maintain it for another 35 weeks.

Jon Rahm also went on to win the Ben Hogan Award two years in a row, in 2015 and 2016. Prior to him, no player had received the award more than once. Unfortunately, his advancement in 2015 to the U.S. Amateur would see him lose to Derek Bard in the quarterfinals. He ended his collegiate career on a high by winning the Pac-12 Conference championship. In the same year, he also secured the NCAA regional championship and advanced to the national championship where he finished in third place.

Jon Rahm turns professional

Rahm turned professional in 2016. His first event as a pro was the Quicken Loans National. He ended the event tied for third place. The third-place finish was sufficient to gain him reentry into the US Open which he had been exempted from prior to the Quickens Loans National. He also participated in the RBC Canadian Open, where he was given Special Temporary Membership for the rest of the season. By the end of 2016, he had garnered sufficient points to earn him a PGA Tour card for the following year.

By this time, Rahm had established himself as a talent to look out for. He started 2017 with a bang. In January he took home the Farmers Insurance Open title, making it his first PGA Tour title. This boosted his Official World Golf Ranking from 137th to 46th. This win also opened up the door for him to enter other major championships such as the US Masters, PGA Championship, and the World Golf Championship. Jon opened his World Golf Championship event card by finishing two strokes short of the winner .

He faced off with Johnson again three weeks later at the Dell Technology sponsored WGC-Match Play. He had to beat out Kevin Campbell, Shane Lowry, , Charles Howell III, Soren Kjeldsen, and Bill Haas on his way to a championship rematch with Dustin Johnson. Unfortunately, he finished runner-up but his efforts so far, saw him rise to a career-high 14th position on the world rankings.

Rahm continued to have an excellent 2017. He finished in 27th place in his debut US Masters tournament, 4th in the Wells Fargo Championship, and was also joint runner-up in the Dean & DeLuca Invitational. These results pushed him into the top-10 of the world rankings.

Next, Jon took on his first European Tour which started with the Open de France, where he finished, tied for 10th. His performance throughout the remaining tour events – the Dubai Duty-Free Irish Open, FedEx Cup Playoffs, and the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, won him the European Tour Rookie of The Year.

In 2018, Jon Rahm picked up where he had left off. He re-ignited his on-course rivalry with Johnson at the Sentry Tournament of Champions in Hawaii. Here, he again finished runner-up, eight strokes behind his rival. Later in the same month, however, he would go on to secure his second career PGA Tour Victory by winning the CareerBuilder Challenge in a sudden-death playoff with Andrew Landry.

This victory meant two things for the young Rahm. It boosted him to the No.2 spot on the world rankings. It also meant that he had secured four wins in only 38 professional starts – a ratio second only to Tiger Wood’s record.

Jon’s family still lives in Spain, which is where he was raised. His father Edorta Rahm, mother, Angela Rahm, and brother Eriz Rahm all continue to show their support for Jon. He still makes time to visit them occasionally between tournaments

There isn’t any information about Jon’s dating history prior to Kelley Cahill. The duo met while Jon was still at Arizona State University and they have been an item ever since. According to the pro-golfer, Kelley is more than just a pretty face. He says that she is a huge part of his success on the golf course.

Kelley helped Rahm to get his diet in order. She made him take a series of medical tests to help him identify and cut out the inessentials in his diet. He ended up cutting out stuff like sugar, gluten, dairy, olive oil, etc.

Rahm is not worried about whether Kelley knows what she is doing; after all, she knows a thing or two about athletics too. Kelley was a javelin thrower while she was at Arizona State University. Jon has also openly praised her cooking during interviews.

Jon is close friends with Tim Mickelson

Tim is the younger brother of the professional golfer, Phil Mickelson. While at Arizona, Tim was the head coach of Arizona State men’s golf team, a position that he left to manage Jon Rahm’s career. However, he later left Jon to caddie full-time for his older brother, Phil Mickelson.

Jon learned English through rap music

Jon has spoken severally about his love for hip-hop. He mentions and as his favorites. However, rap played a more critical role in his assimilation into the USA. Rahm says he memorized rap songs to help him learn to pronounce certain words and not necessarily to learn new ones. He said this exercise also trained him to be able to communicate faster in English without pausing.

Rahm credits his father for pushing him to pursue his dream

Jon’s father, Edorta Rahm was the one who pushed Rahm into making the decision to move to the United States. He was undecided before his father’s input. Edorta Rahm had the foresight to tell his son that the future of golf was in the States and that it was the only place where he could realize his full potential.
