Jonathan Osteen – Biography

Jonathan Osteen was born to Joel Osteen and Victoria Iloff on the 20th of April, 1995 in Houston, Texas. This was where he spent his childhood along with his younger sister, Alexandra who was born three years after him in 1998.

Details of his early education are not known, like the elementary school and high school he attended. In 2017, he graduated from the University of Texas, however, what he studied is not known to the general public. However, a picture he posted on the photo-sharing app, Instagram which was in celebration of his graduation was met with criticism from members of the church and the general public.

The picture featured Jonathan with his parents and sister, making the finger sign of “Hook Em”; this sign is said to resemble devil horns and as a widely known religious family making that sign was perceived as inappropriate by many. The family made the ‘Hook Em’ sign because it was the sign the University’s mascot makes and it was just their way of declaring their love for the university. However, the backlash was so heavy that the picture was later taken down.

Career

Jonathan is mostly known for being a member of the Osteen family, but he has a career in music. He plays the guitar and sings in his church choir. He is also the lead vocalist of the band – LYA; the other members of the band are Alexandra Osteen, Louie Garcia, and Abel Orta. All four members of the band attend the Lakewood Church, where they are also part of the church’s choir.

The band was created out of the need to create diverse music that still managed to touch on the concept of faith and a relationship with Jesus. The music they make fits the alternative genre and will appeal to younger people, who also happen to be the largest demographic in their fan base. The band has mostly released singles; their debut single was the song, Feelin’ which was released in 2016, followed by Rush which was released in the same year. The next time they released new music was in 2019 and it was the song, In the Name. Their music is available on iTunes and Spotify.

Family

The Osteen family is known for the work they do as religious leaders in the Christian Faith. John Osteen, the paternal grandfather of Jonathan, was the one who started the Lakewood church in Texas. He founded the church in 1959 and was the senior pastor until he died in 1999. John Osteen had six children, Justin, Paul, Lisa, April, Tamara, and Joel.

Joel, who is the father of Jonathan, was the child who took over the church after his father’s death. John’s other children are also ministers. Joel got married to Victoria Iloff in 1987; the couple met in 1985 while Victoria worked at her mother’s jewelry shop. Today, Victoria is a pastor at the Lakewood church. Joel and Victoria are not just pastors they also write books and have been known to state that the proceeds from the sale of their books are what they live off.
