Jonathan Bryan Toews first made his entrance into the world on April 29, 1988, in Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada, and into the family of the Toews. His father Bryan Toews worked at the University of Manitoba as an electrician, while his mom Andree^’Gilbert who is of French origin was a managing director and finance expert for a credit union in Winnipeg domain before retiring to supervise Jonathan’s media affairs.

His ancestry is part English and part French and thanks to his mother Andree Gilbert, Jonathan is fluent in both English and French. The young lad schooled in Shattuck Saint Mary’s and the University of North Dakota where he and his brother, David played ice-hockey. He played in amateur leagues from 2003 creating impressive records and winning awards until he declared for the 2006 NHL draft and was picked by the Chicago Blackhawks. This marked the beginning of Toews journey to professional major league Ice hockey.

On the 16th of May 2007, Jonathan Toews put pen to paper on his very first professional deal with the Chicago Blackhawks which was to last for 3 years. He had an excellent first season and scored a nomination as NHL Rookie of the Year and for the Calder Memorial Trophy. The following season in 2008, he got a major boost and was named the captain of the team, making him the second youngest captain in National Hockey League’s (NHL) history after .

Over time, he has been awarded different trophies ranging from the Stanley cup award three times in 2010, 2013 and 2015; to being named the best forward in the 2014 winter Olympics; and in 2017, he was chosen as one of NHL’s greatest players. As captain, he took the team to many victories so that by the time his contract was to expire in 2009, a contract extension was awaiting his signature.
