Jordan Howard is an American professional football running back associated with the Chicago Bears of the National Football League (NFL). He was the 150th pick and 10th running back picked during the NFL draft of 2016. Wearing shirt No 24, Howard made his first appearance for the Bears in October 2016. He has been one of the best running backs in the Bears history and has recorded several awards in his name.

Prior to his NFL career, Jordan Howard played college football at the University of Alabama, Birmingham and Indiana University. He was named First-team All-Conference American running back in 2014 and First-team Big Ten in 2015. During his professional career, Jordan was named to the Pro Football Writers Association All-Rookie Team as well as the 2016 Pro Bowl. The running back was born Jordan Reginald Howard in Gardendale, Alabama on November 2, 1994, to Dr Reginald Bernard Howard and his wife Flora Howard. Unfortunately, his father died of pulmonary fibrosis in 2007. While he was growing up, Jordan developed a keen interest in the game of football and completed his high school career at Gardendale High School. During his high school, he was able to master the skills for the running back position; hence, finishing his high school career with 21 touchdowns in 10 games and covering 1,388 yards for the Rockets. He also won the Birmingham News North/East Player of the Year Award in 2011.

After his graduation from high school, Jordan Howard enrolled at the University of Alabama, Birmingham where he continued with his college career in 2013. He made his debut appearance for UAB against Louisiana State University Tigers. He recorded his season high with 159 rushing yards against Florida International University and finished his rookie year, averaging 6.1 yards per carrying. The following year, he averaged 132.3 rushing yards per game and also covered 1,587 rushing yards. Following his wonderful performance that season, Howard was named to All-Conference USA First-team.

Before the 2015 season began, UAB football team was shut down leading Howard to transfer to the Indiana University where he played for the Indiana Hoosiers football team. He finished the 2015 season at the institution, recording 1,213 yard, 11 receptions, and one touchdown in 9 game plays.

Professional Career

During the 2016 NFL draft, Jordan Howard was selected by the Chicago Bears as the 150th overall pick in the fifth round. Meanwhile, he was the 10th running back to be selected in the draft. He signed a four-year deal worth $2.58 million with the Bears with an additional $248,022 as signing bonus. In his rookie year, Howard became the fifth rookie to surpass 1,000 rushing yards. He finished the season averaging 5.2 yards per carrying and 1,313 rushing yards. He won the NFC Offensive Player of the Week Award, FedEx Ground Player of the Week Award; as well as Offensive Rookie of the month in the same year.

In 2017, Jordan played 16 games, averaging 4.1 carries per game, 9 touchdowns, and 1,122 rushing yards. He led the Bears in scoring, thus, setting a career high with 5 receptions, 167 yards, and 36 carries against the Steelers in September 2017. Jordan became the first player in franchise history to surpass the 1,000-yard mark in his first two seasons. He was also named to the 2017 Pro Bowl where he replaced who was injured. He further received Brian Piccolo Award for his remarkable performances.
