Jorge Linares Biography
The Golden Boy was born Jorge Luis Linares Palencia on August 22, 1985, in Barinas, Venezuela. He was brought up alongside his brother, Nelson Linares. He was raised in a family that is not new to boxing. His father owned a gym and so, he started training his sons from when they were little kids.
While the family imbibed and maintained the discipline that would help the boxer to become who he is today, there were financial problems and because of that, he wanted to leave Venezuela to find a way of raising money to help the family.
The only reason he didn’t leave the country for Japan was that he was only 15 at the time and he needed to complete his education.
After heading back to school and obtaining a diploma, Linares went to Japan and was able to make a steady rise there. Apart from his love for boxing, one of the main things that served as a motivation for him was the poverty in his family. He wanted to become a world champion and get his family out of poverty.
In his amateur days in Venezuela, Jorge Linares recorded 89 wins and 5 defeats. Winning different junior titles in the process. By the time he was 17, the Golden Boy had already left the country for Japan but it was until he turned 18 that he was allowed to start his professional career in Japan.
He had his debut fight as a professional boxer in 2002 when he fought and defeated Kyong-Soo Chung in a fight that he won in a kockout. 2003 saw him get 6 other fights all of which he won rather easily. In 2004, he won the WBA Fedelatin super bantamweight title after he defeated Hugo Rafael Soto by unanimous decision.
He would go on to defeat many other boxers and win titles such as the WBA and The Ring lightweight title which he won in 2016 after defeating Anthony Crolla. He would defend the title three times before finally losing it to Vasyl Lomachenko in 2018.
Not only has he come a very long way as a boxer, his first defeat also came after he won 27 straight fights. The first defeat was to Juan Carlos Salgado. By the time he has achieved 45 fights to his belt, he has only lost 4 times. 27 of his victories were won by knockout while 17 were by decision, and 4 of his losses were all by knockout.
Family And Wife
As earlier stated, Jorge Linares was born into a family that had boxing in the blood but it was mainly his hard work and determination that made him a success. He got training from his father even though their family suffered poverty. Also, as already said, he has a brother, Nelson, who is also found in boxing arenas as he is also a fighter.
The 4-time world champion is a married man and the name of his wife is Michelle Linares. A very beautiful woman who has managed to keep herself away from the media, Michelle has been a part of the boxer’s life for some time.
As expected, there is nothing known about when Michelle Linares was born or any other thing about her because she has kept her life very much away from the public. In fact, she also stays almost completely away from social media platforms including Instagram.
With only very little information about his married life, there’s no confirmation that The Golden Boy and his wife have any child.
Height, Weight, And Body Measurements
There is absolutely no gainsaying that boxing is not the sport for the tallest of men or even the most built. That is what we have learned from many boxers including the very best in the sport. Regarding Jorge Linares, he will not stand as the tallest man in many rings nor will he be counted among the most built.
In numbers, he stands at a height of 5 ft 7 in (173 cm) while his body weight is about 152 pounds. For his general body measurements, there are no details that have been provided for in that regards.
