Josh Adams is a Philadelphia Eagles running back who entered the National Football league as an undrafted free agent after three years of playing football at the illustrious University of Notre Dame.

Josh Adams’ Biography

Josh, whose birth name is Joshua Adams, was born on the 29th of October, 1996 in Warrington, Pennsylvania. He is the third child of his parents; Apryll and Jonathan Adams who got divorced when he was young although they both played significant roles in him becoming who he is today. His mother works for the IRS while his father is a retired United Parcel Service employee.

While growing up, Adams was unusually big for his age. His love for playing all kinds of sports at odd times of the day prompted his father to introduce him to football, where he initially played as an offensive line. However, after impressing in sprints in middle school, his coaches switched him to the running back position. He went on to attend Central Bucks High School South where he became a star player for the school. His performance attracted interests from colleges like Stanford and Penn State, among many others but Adams elected to go with the University of Notre Dame.

In his freshman year at Notre Dame, Josh Adams played in all 13 games, starting three as he was the third choice in his position. That did not stop him from setting a Notre Dame freshman record for rushing yards in a game and rushing yards in a season. Adams continued to impress and by his junior year, was ranked sixth in rushing yards history at Notre Dame. He was notably named on the Doak Walker Award Watch List in both 2016 and 2017, as well as on the Maxwell Award Watch List (2017).

Before the beginning of his senior year, Adams announced he was entering the 2018 NFL Draft. He was not selected, but he still made it to the league as an undrafted free-agent.

Josh Adams signed a three-year rookie contract with the Philadelphia Eagles worth $1,710,000. It was also reported that the team paid him $55,000 in guaranteed money to join their ranks. Aside from that payment, Adams’ base salary for 2018 is put at $480,000, which is 0.25 percent of the Eagles’ cap total for the season. In 2019, the running back will take home $570,000 and then $660,000 in 2020.

Heisman Candidature

Following a game against North Carolina State Wolfpack football team on the 28th of October 2017 where Adams put in one of his best performances of the season, his school launched the #33Trucking hashtag and a website highlighting his plays to begin the campaign for him to be awarded the Heisman Trophy. In that game, Josh Adams managed 202 rushing yards and a touchdown on 27 touches, which included a late third quarter 77-yard dash that gave his team its final score as they convincingly won 35-14.

However, after that performance and bid launch, Adams’ game dipped. He only managed to play a part of the first quarter of his team’s next game against Wake Forest because he suffered from minor headaches which he attributed to minimal sleep, exams and a busy week at school. The following week after that, he managed only 40 rushing yards as his team suffered a 41-8 loss. His next two games were everything but Heisman Trophy-worthy as his hopes of winning the coveted award slowly died off.

High School Awards and Achievements

As a sophomore at Central Bucks South, Josh Adams was named all-Southeastern Pennsylvania first-team running back by the Philadelphia Inquirer after rushing 257 times for 2,085 yards with 28 touchdowns. His junior years were hampered by a knee injury. When he returned to playing in his senior year, he rushed for 1,623 yards on 208 carries with 25 touchdowns but was named all-Southeastern Pennsylvania second-team running back.

He was further named to the PrepStar All-East Region squad and the USA Today American Family Insurance All-USA Pennsylvania Football Team as running back. The latter also named him offensive player of the year.
