Brett Kavanaugh was born in Washington, D.C, on the 12th of February, 1965 to his parents, Martha Gamble and Everett Edward Kavanaugh. His full name at birth is Brett Michael Kavanaugh. He grew up in Bethesda, Maryland.

His mother, Martha was at Woodson and McKinley high schools where she taught history in the 60s and 70s. Martha went on to serve as a Maryland state Circuit Court Judge from 1995 to 2001 after she had earned her law degree from Washington College of Law in 1978. Everett, his father was also an attorney. Kavanaugh is from constitutionally astute roots.

Judge Brett Kavanaugh attended Georgetown Preparatory School while he was a teenager. An all-boys high school that has gone on to produce some of the finest legal minds including U.S. Supreme Court Justice .

While at Georgetown Prep, Kavanaugh was friends with Mark Judge. He was also the captain of the school’s basketball team and played on the football team as well. He graduated in 1983 and went on to Yale University. Kavanaugh majored in history while at Yale and graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in 1987. He attended law school at Yale Law School, graduating with a Juris Doctor in 1990.

Legal Career Profile

Kavanaugh worked as a clerk for Judge Walters King Stapleton of the US Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit. He got admitted to the Maryland Bar in 1990 and the District of Columbia Bar two years later. He worked with Solicitor General Ken Starr for a number of years, firstly on a one-year fellowship and then on multiple other cases. Notably, the sex scandal with then-US president, .

In late 2000, he joined the legal team of George W. Bush and was later hired as an associate by White House Counsel, Alberto Gonzales when Bush became president. Kavanaugh also served as White House Staff Secretary.

Though Kavanaugh’s nomination by President Bush to the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit was stalled in the Senate for nearly three years, he has served as a judge at the court since 2006. There he remained until he was nominated to serve as a US Supreme Court Justice by President Donald Trump in July 2018.

Brett Kavanaugh met his wife, Ashley Estes while the pair were employed by President Bush’s administration. She was an assistant during Bush’s presidential campaign and while he was Governor of Texas.

Ashley was then Personal Secretary to President Bush from the start of his presidency to 2004. She attended Abilene Cooper High School and attended the University of Texas. Ashley got married to Kavanaugh in 2004. The union of the pair has been blessed with two children, daughters Liza and Margaret. Kavanaugh and his family live in the Chevy Chase Section Five, Maryland. As of 2018, Ashley works as a town manager of Chevy Chase Section Five, Maryland.

Religion

Judge Brett Kavanaugh is a Catholic by faith. He attended the Catholic Georgetown Preparatory School and is a lector at the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament, in Washington DC. He is involved in a host of activities volunteering for causes related to his beliefs. Kavanaugh is the coach of his daughters’ basketball teams with the Catholic Youth Organization. He has tutored at Washington Jesuit Academy in DC, a Catholic private school and with his local assembly, he also serves meals to the homeless.

Stand on Gay Marriage

When it comes to Brett Kavanaugh’s stand on gay marriages and LGBT rights in general, no one can unequivocally state exactly what his stance is. There is no ruling in Kavanaugh’s history that would suggest to what way he leans in such matters.
