She had her high school education at First Colonial High School, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, from where she enrolled at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, California to further her education. Newton’s interest in music was sparked by her mother, who bought her a guitar when she was in high school. During her college days, she used to play folk music in local coffeehouses. She would meet songwriter/guitarist Otha Young, with whom she successfully formed a folk-rock band.
The talented singer/songwriter earned a place in the hearts of many country fans with some of her hit singles which include, Queen of Hearts (1981), Love’s Been a Little Bit Hard on Me (1982), and Angel of the Morning (1981). Through the course of her career, the iconic pop star has bagged a People’s Choice Award for “Best Female Vocalist”, an ACM Award for Top New Female Artist, the Australian Music Media’s “Number One International Country Artist”, five Grammy Award nominations in the Pop and Country Best Female Vocalist categories (she only won once in 1983), as well as and two Billboard Female Album Artist of the Year awards.
To her credit, she also has several Gold and Platinum records. Juice Newton charted 14 Top-10 hits across the Billboard Hot 100 Charts, AC, Billboard Country, with six of the songs reaching the No. 1 position.
The musician is a divorcee and a mother of two. She was previously married to Tom Goodspeed, a horse trainer/world renown author, coach, and author. He has devoted over four decades in the equestrian world and is a 2-time National Collegiate Champion. A graduate of the University of Connecticut, Goodspeed is also a professional Player who has bagged 9 goal handicap in the arena and a 5 goal handicap outdoors.
The couple tied the knot in the year 1985 and welcomed a daughter called Jessica (born 1988) and later a son named Tyler (born 1991). In her younger age, Juice Newton played polo and participated in several equestrian events.
