Back in 2012, it did not seem like Justin Tucker was going to make anything of himself in the NFL. This assumption was driven home by the fact that he was passed on by every NFL franchise that was involved in the 2012 NFL Draft. Born to Paul and Michelle Tucker in Houston, Texas on November 21, 1989, Justin Paul Tucker’s football journey starts in high school. While at Westlake High School in Austin, Texas, he played for the school’s football team and had teammates such as the now popular , who is a quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles.
Justin moved on to the University of Texas, where he played a big part in the long-standing football rivalry between the University of Texas and Texas A&M University. He was also one of the players selected for the 2008 edition of the . His time at the University saw him major in music, graduating with a degree in Recording Technologies.
Career Begining
Justin Tucker submitted his participation for the 2012 NFL Draft held from April 26 – 28, however, all the 32 teams in the NFL overlooked the young prospect’s talents. A month later, on May 29, 2012, the Baltimore Ravens decided to bring the Texan onto their roster. The initial plan for Justin’s signing was for him to play second fiddle to veteran placekicker Billy Cundiff, but Justin had different plans. After consistent and impressive turnouts in the team’s training camp and preseason games, he usurped Billy as the team’s starter in his position. This was solidified when Cundiff’s contract with the Ravens was terminated just three months after Justin joined the team.

Tucker’s rookie season was better than he could ever hope for. He proved to be a very efficient kicker, recording a 91.43 percent success rate on his field goal attempts and sinking all 42 of his PAT attempts. He also pushed his name further into the fans’ hearts with a last-gasp field goal in the dying seconds of the game to give the franchise their first regular season win ever against the New England Patriots. Tucker relentless success and that of his teammates saw the placekicker win his first Super Bowl ring in his rookie season.
Justin Tucker’s placekicking excellence continued into the 2013 season. The placekicker proved that he knows how to step up for his team when the chips are down. He kicked five field goals, leading the Raves to a 22-20 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers on Thanksgiving day. He then bettered this with a franchise-best six field goals in a game against the Detroit Lions on December 16, 2016. These included a 61-yard field goal screamer to wrap up the game and the victory. His field goals were the only points for the Ravens in the 18-16 victory. He was voted a 1st team All-Pro and named to his first Pro Bowl at the end of the 2013 campaign.
By 2016, Justin was an indispensable part of the team. This led to the team placing a franchise tag on the placekicker to prevent him from becoming an unrestricted free agent. This put an extra $4.5 million is Justin’s coffers and on July 15, 2016, the team officially signed him to an improved $16.8 million four-year contract. In the same season, he achieved the NFL’s single-season record of 10 50-yard or more field goals in a single campaign. He earned his second Pro Bowl and First-team All-Pro honors at the end of the campaign.

They welcomed their first child, a boy named Easton Hayes on May 10, 2016.
