Kate Moss Biography

The international fashion superstar was born Katherine Ann Moss on January 16, 1974, in Croydon, Greater London. Her mother Linda Rosina (née Shepherd) worked as a barmaid and her father Peter Edward Moss worked for an airline company. However, her parents’ marriage ended when she was 13. She was raised alongside 2 siblings; a younger brother named Nick and a half-sister named Charlotte.

Kate Moss had her elementary education at Ridgeway Primary School and her secondary education was at Riddlesdown High School, both in Purley, South London. At age 14, Moss was spotted at the JFK Airport in New York while returning to England after a family vacation by the founder of Storm Model Management, Sarah Doukas.

At age 16, Kate Moss’s modeling career officially kicked off in 1990 after a picture of her shot by legendary British photographer Corinne Day appeared in the now-defunct British magazine The Face. She became the face of Calvin Klein at age 18 and went on to feature in several high-profile risque ad campaigns.

She scored her first British Vogue cover in 1992 and her career continued on a meteoric rise throughout the 1990s and well into the 2000s. In 1999, Kate Moss was ranked 9th on Maxim magazine’s list of “50 Sexiest Women” of the year. According to Forbes magazine, she earned about $5 million between 2004 and 2005.

In late 2005, Kate Moss was at the center of a bout of controversies following allegations of drug use. As a result, she was dropped from several ad campaigns with brands such as H&M, Chanel, and Burberry. However, owing to a lack of evidence, she was cleared of all the charges by the London Metropolitan Police in June 2006.

After the charges were dropped, Kate Moss returned to her winning ways as she went on to feature in ad campaigns for virtually all the most notable fashion houses around the world; Chanel, Burberry, Balenciaga, Versace, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, Dior, Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Calvin Klein, Alexander McQueen and so many others.

She equally scored several international magazine covers as she shot back to the top of the highest-paid models’ chart. In fact, Kate Moss attained much more success in her career after the infamous drug scandal. She also received the model of the year award at the 2006 British Fashion Awards.

Due to her regular use of fur, Kate Moss was listed as one of the ‘Worst-Dressed’ Celebrities of 2008 by American animal rights organization PETA. The fashion entrepreneur has 4 perfume lines to her name titled Kate Moss, Vintage Muse, Lila Belle and Love Blossoms. She has also collaborated with the international fashion retail brand Topshop on 2 clothing collections released in 2007 and 2014 respectively.

Oscar-nominated English actor Jude Law was the initial godfather of Kate Moss’s daughter Lila Grace. He was however relieved of the godfather role following his divorce from Moss’s friend Sadie Frost in 2003. Her daughter’s new godfather is the Scottish-born singer-songwriter, Bobby Gillespie.

Relationship With Johnny Depp

Kate Moss and were one of the hottest celebrity couples of the 1990s. The duo met in February 1994 in New York’s Cafe Tabac and they began dating almost immediately. Theirs was an on-and-off relationship marred by series of breakups and makeups.

After four years, the power couple parted ways in 1998. The break up was very tough on Moss as it took her several years to get over Johnny Depp.

Kate Moss Body Height And Other Body Measurements

Unlike the tall and buxom supermodels of the late 80s (Naomi Campbell, Elle Macpherson, Claudia Schiffer and Cindy Crawford), Kate Moss possessed a waif-like figure characterized by a very skinny body coupled with angular bone structure. Her eccentric body structure earned her the moniker “anti-model”. She is indeed one of the foremost fashion figures who made “The waif look” more acceptable in fashion circles.

In 1996, Moss faced severe criticisms over her weight following a Calvin Klein underwear ad campaign which emphasized her very skinny features. However, she always insisted that she was not anorexic. She eventually overcame the criticisms and was able to establish herself as one of the models to be reckoned with in her generation.

Being a model, you are right to expect her to possess the best body stats which should be a yardstick for other women. Yes, Kate doesn’t disappoint here; her bust is size 34 inches or 86.5cm, with her waist being 26 inches or 66cm. Coming down her hips, she is size 35 inches or 89cm. All these weigh about 55kg or 121lbs standing at 5 feet 7 inches. Kate wears a dress size of US size 4 or EU size 34. Her shoes are normally US size 7 or size 37 EU.
