Ekaterina Andreevna Sokolova popularly known as Katya Jones is a Russian professional dancer and choreographer. Despite coming from an affluent family, she tailored her own dreams to attain the celebrity status she now enjoys. From a tender age, she was highly obsessed with dancing and as such, it is not surprising she decided to pursue it as a career later on in life. With the right support, encouragement, and grooming, Katya is currently living her dreams as a professional dancer in Blackpool. In 2016, she rose to international recognition as a result of her involvement in the 2016 dance competition, Strictly Come Dancing.

Katya Jones Biography

Katya Jones was born on the 12th of May 1989 in Leningrad, Soviet Union (now St Petersburg, Russia) as Ekaterina Andreevna Sokolova. She is a Russian of mixed ethnicity. Not much is known concerning her early childhood except the fact that she loved dancing from a very tender age. At the age of 6, she started her dance training but it was limited to just Latin American dancing and ballroom dancing. She holds a degree as a professional pianist which she bagged from the Saint-Petersburg University of Culture and Arts (formerly called Leningrad University).

Her first dance partner came in the form of a boy she met at school – Evgeny Urazgildeev. According to several sources, he was her dance partner from 2003 – 2007. They both contested as a duo in several dance shows in Germany and Ireland at youth levels. It’s however important to note that her second and final partner in Russia was Igor Astafiev, the pair got split in 2008 during her trip to Blackpool for a dance competition. As a result of that, she had no choice but to partner with a stranger in the person of Neil Jones. Her partnership with Jones became a successful one with them going on to win four British National Championships and three World Amateur Latin Championships.

Her big break, nevertheless, came in 2016 when she got selected as a professional dancer on the TV show Strictly Come Dancing, where she partnered with Ed Balls and ended up coming sixth. They were however nominated for a must-see TV moment for their amazing Gangnam Style dance steps. The following year, she won the competition partnering with Joe McFadden.

Husband – Neil Jones

To most of us, Neil Jones is simply known as the husband of Katya Jones. However, he is also a professional British dancer born on the 4th of May 1982 in the British Army Camp, Munster, West Germany. He began dancing at the very tender age of three, with him going on to specialize in various dance styles.

He met his wife and current dance partner, Katya Jones in 2008 at Blackpool during a dance competition she was supposed to compete in alongside Igor Astafiev. Unfortunately, as a result of poor logistics, they got split. She was however asked to pair with Neil so she could compete. On seeing Neil, she felt a surge of attraction; it was only a matter of time before the two started dating officially. They finally tied the knot in 2013.

Earlier in 2018, their marriage was put to test when Katya was caught on camera passionately kissing her fellow Strictly Come Dancing partner, Sean Walsh at a nightclub in Marylebone, London. It sparked lots of controversy and comments among fans with some even clamoring for them to be thrown off the show. Sean later apologized for his actions claiming it was just a drunk moment between them and that he’s really sorry for what he did.

The couple kept apart from each other for some time but Neil finally forgave her. According to him, despite being hurt seeing pictures of his wife kissing Sean, his love for her wouldn’t let him end their beautiful marriage. The two are still very happy together. Katya recently revealed that she intends to have a baby with Neil very soon.
