Kahlil Ameer Felder popularly known as Kay Felder is a professional basketball point guard associated with the Toronto Raptors of the Canadian Basketball League. The small lefty guard with explosive scoring ability was selected by the Atlanta Hawks as the 54th overall pick during the NBA draft of 2016. He has played for other top NBA teams including Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, and Detroit Pistons. The star has featured both in the NBA Pro League as well as the NBA G-League. He completed his collegiate career with the Oakland Golden Grizzlies of the Oakland University.

Kay Felder’s Bio

Kay Felder was born as Kahlil Ameer Felder Jr. to Afro-American parents Kahlil Felder Sr. and his wife Tiffany Williams. He was born in Detroit Michigan in 1995 and he celebrates his birthday every 29th March. Coming from a lineage of basketball players, his father Felder Sr. played basketball at the collegiate level at Eastern Michigan; while his cousin Steve Smith also played basketball professionally for several teams of the NBA. Felder began his basketball career while he was attending Pershing High School situated in Detroit, Michigan.

During his high school career, he led Pershing high basketball team to win three state championship titles in 2009, 2011, and 2012. He was named Public School League Most Valuable Player in his senior year and he also won the Mr. Basketball of Michigan Award. Also, Felder was named to the Detroit Free Press Dream Team and he participated in the Michigan All-Star Game. While he was a distinguished athlete in high school; he also had an impressive academic record. He graduated with a 3.6 GPA which earned him a spot on the National Roll of Honor and the Dean’s list. Felder also won Detroit Public School’s Learner of the Year 2013.

Soon after his graduation from high school, Felder enrolled at the Oakland University where he played for the Golden Grizzlies basketball team. He played the point guard position for the Grizzlies for three seasons ending in 2016. As a freshman, Kay Felder averaged 6.4 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 9.5 points per game. At the end of the season, he was named to the Horizon League All-Freshman team while he received the League’s Freshman of the Year award. In his sophomore year, Felder notched 7.6 assists, 4.8 rebounds, and 18.1 points per game. He was selected to the Mid-Major All-American team, All-Horizon League First team, and was the only player in the country to record at least 7.0 assists and 17.0 points per game.

In his junior season, Kay broke the Horizon League record for career high and single-season assist records. He won the Horizon League Player of the Week award for six times consecutively and at the end of the season; he averaged of 9.3 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 24.4 points per game. Kay was named Horizon League Player of the Year and was selected to the All-Horizon League First team. Felder announced that he would forgo the last year of his college career so he could join the 2016 NBA draft.

Professional Career Stats and Highlights

During the 2016 NBA draft combine, Kay Felder was able to put up a wonderful performance and after the drills; he was projected to be a late second rounder. During the 2016 draft, he was picked by the Atlanta Hawks in the second round of the draft. He was the 54th player to be drafted that year. After the draft, Felder was immediately traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Joining the Cavaliers squad, Felder participated in the 2016 NBA Summer League after which he penned down a two-year deal worth $2.4 million with the Cavaliers. He made his first professional appearance for the Cavaliers in the 2016/17 regular season on October 29, 2016. He was playing as a back up to and he shared most of his rookie season between the Cavaliers and their G-League affiliate Canton Charge.

In October 2017, Kay Felder was yet again traded back to the Hawks alongside and two future second-round picks in exchange for Dimitrios Agravanis and Sergiy Gladyr. After the trade, Felder was immediately waived by the Hawks. Afterward, he was recruited by the Chicago Bulls on October 16, 2017. He played a total of 14 games for the Bulls and also played for their G-League affiliate Windy City Bulls. Felder averaged 1.4 assists, 1.0 rebound, and 3.9 points per game in 14 appearances for the Bulls. He was released by the Bulls in December 2017.

Kay Felder joined the Detroit Pistons on January 21, 2018; he was placed on a two-way contract between the Pistons and their G-League affiliate Grand Rapids Drive. Felder later signed up with the Toronto Raptors of the Canadian Basketball League in August 2018.
