Kelly Marie Tran was born on January 17, 1989 A.D. in San Diego, California, United States. Her birth name is Trần Loan and she is professionally known as Marie Tran. She belongs to the Asian-American ethnicity while Cancer is her zodiac sign. Both her parent’s name is not revealed yet but it was found that her parents were refugees who fled from Vietnam due to the Vietnam War and they were homeless due to financial problems. They moved to the U.S in the later years where her father worked in Burger King and her mother worked in Funeral Home.

Kelly Marie Tran attended Westview High School during which she even worked at a yoghurt shop to earn money for headshots. After her high school graduation, she joined the University of California, Los Angeles(UCLA) from where she graduated earning a BA degree in communications.

Kelly Marie Tran started her professional career as an actress with her role as Jamie in the short film, “UNtouchable” afterwards in the same year, she appeared in several short films; “The Rising Cost of Cosmetics”, “Impressions” and “Hot Girls on the Beach”.She played many cameo roles and short casting roles as she has also appeared in TV series; “This Indie Girl”, “Fabulous High”, “To the Bridge”, “About a Boy”, “Adam Ruins Everything” and “CollegeHumor”.

But even after her years-long career in the industry, Kelly was an unrecognized face. In 2015, Tran got her breakthrough when she was cast as Rose Tico in “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”. With her role in The Last Jedi, Tran became the first Asian-American woman to play the main role in a Star Wars film. She was a series regular appearing as Jules Shaw on the Facebook Watch series, “Sorry for Your Loss”(2018-19). She reprised the role of Rose Tico in “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019 as she got many criticisms for her role in the series. She then played the lead role of Kaitlin Le in Radiotopia’s mystery thriller podcast, “Passenger List”. In 2020, she voiced the role of Dawn Betterman in the animated film, “The Croods: A New Age” and also in a short TV film, “The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special”.She will be voice acting in upcoming movie and series such as”Raya and the Last Dragon” and “Monsters at Work”.
