Ken Marino Bio

Marino was born Kenneth Joseph Marino on the 19th day of September 1968 in Long Island, New York. He is of Italian descent. Marino got his training from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts and later, the Lee Strasberg Institute in Manhattan New York. Marino began his entertainment career professionally in 1992 and it wasn’t long before his work began to garner traction. He co-founded a comedy troupe on the MTV sketch comedy series The State, a series that was quite a success.

He was a writer as well as a series regular actor on the series which lasted till 1995. His next major gig was a series regular role in the second season of the NBC sitcom, Men Behaving Badly. In 1997, Ken Marino made his feature film debut in a small part in the science fiction film, Gattaca.

The new millennium began well for Marino with success in both the small and big screen. He became more visible in feature films scoring parts in films like Wet Hot American SummerTortilla Soup, and Joe Somebody. In TV, he had a recurring role in Dawson’s Creek.

In the mid-2000s, Ken Marino had a recurring role in Veronica Mars. He reprised his role in the feature film released in 2014. Children’s Hospital which premiered in 2008, exposed him to a wider audience. The show was a huge success running for 7 seasons before ending in 2016. In between the show’s seasons, Marino took up other gigs most notably a recurring role in Axe CopMarry Me, and Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp.

Ken Marino is married to Erica Oyama, a screenwriter best recognized for her work in Burning Love, a web series directed and produced by Marino. Oyama who was born on the 28th of March 1981, is a native of Birmingham, Alabama. However, she has Asian roots. The couple got married on the 8th of October 2005 and have since collaborated on many projects.

Marino’s wife got her first break as part of the writers of the show, Children’s Hospital. Following a period of working on a couple of behind-the-scenes with Marino, Oyama garnered a lot of experience and when Marino booked a role on Children’s Hospital, he also got a writing part alongside his wife. The couple wrote a script for the first season of the show which was accepted.

Oyama got her major break with Burning Love. The show was a parody of the reality TV series, The Bachelor which is one of her favorites. The show first aired as a web series before going to the TV. It aired for 3 seasons and 42 episodes and received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Special Class in 2013.

Oyama wrote and produced a series in collaboration with Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment which was . Universal bought her feature film, Me Time.

In addition to writing, Oyama is also good at acting. She played Breem Bensen in the 2007 movie, The Ten. Also, she played the minor but memorable role of Flight Attendant #3 in an episode of Children’s Hospital.

Ken Marino and his wife have two children, a son named Riley Ken’ichi Marino and a daughter named Ruby Marino.
