Kenan Thompson is an American actor and comedian who is famous for being on NBC’s Saturday Night Live since 2003. In his teenage years, Kenan was part of the original cast of Nickelodeon’s All That, a sketch comedy series. His film credits include Barbershop 2, Fat Albert and Snakes on a Plane.

Early Life, Age, and His Early Comedy Career

Kenan Thompson was born the second of the three children of Fletcher and Elizabeth Ann Thompson on May 10, 1978, in Atlanta, Georgia. He had an elder brother and a younger sister. As a child, he had a knack for acting and his mum encouraged him to take up acting classes to which he was enrolled at Tri-Cities High School, a Visual and Performing Arts Magnet School in East Point, Georgia. It wasn’t long after he was enrolled in the school before he started appearing in their play The Gingerbread Duck.

Young Kenan stepped up his acting predilection by auditioning with The Youth Ensemble of Atlanta (YEA), a theatre company when he was about 15 years old. At the age of 16, Kenan Thompson won the role of a film reviewer with famous Turner Broadcasting Station and he was also an entertainment reporter for CNN’s Real News for Kids.

In 1994, he began making appearances in the widely watched Nickelodeon’s All That while in 1996 he starred on Kenan and Kel which got him the 1998 “Kids Choice Award.”

When Kenan Thompson left Nickelodeon, his film career took off. He made appearances in films like Rocky and Bullwinkle (2000), Love Don’t Cost a Thing (2003), Barbershop 2 (2004) and Snakes on a Plane (2006). He worked alongside his childhood idol in the 2004 film Fat Albert which he described as a dream come true for him. In an interview he granted, he disclosed that Bill was actually the only well-known comedian he knew and could watch his shows as a kid because his jokes were devoid of “dirt” unlike what was obtainable with other comedians then.

He gave supporting roles in movies like Love Don’t Cost a Thing, Heavyweights etc. Thompson also had a recurring role as Junior in the show with fellow star Kel Mitchel.
