Kim Bum’s Bio and Age

The actor was born in South Korea’s capital city of Seoul on July 7, 1989 to his father who is known simply as Jerry and his South Korean mother Min-ho Bum. His parents also had two other children, a boy, and a girl, both of whom are younger than Kim. He spent lhis growing years in South Korea but at a point, he relocated to Australia where he lived with his father for a while.

Growing up, Kim Bum had an interest in athletics. This interest saw him play in his high school’s soccer team, eventually becoming the team captain. However, he had a dream of one day making it as an actor. After graduating from high school, he enrolled at Cung-ang University from where he graduated with a degree in Film and Theatre. While at Cung-ang, he was fully involved in the University’s cultural programs to help give him much needed first hand acting exposure on stage.

As a University student, he also auditioned for a spot on the Survival Star. The audition ended with him in 6th position out of hundreds of participants but he was cut from joining the show as he was under the age of 20 at the time. But the exposure was all he needed to kickstart his acting career.

Kim Bum had his chance with his debut acting role when he appeared as a self-titled character on the television comedy series High Kick in 2006. He appeared in a total of 11 episodes for the series. In 2008, the actor gave a world-class performance as Dong Chul on MBC’s drama series. He won the Netizen Popularity Award for his troubles at the Korea Drama Awards.

His stock continued to soar when he joined the cast of the Korean hit drama series Boys Over Flowers in 2009. He played the role of So Yi Jung for 25 episodes. His guest appearance on Padam Padam two years later only increased his reputation further.

After being inspired by his musician cousin Jini years prior, the actor finally delved into music in 2012 with his debut studio album release Hometown. This didn’t stop him from creating time for his next movie project Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon.

In 2013, Kim Bum made his television historical drama debut Goddess of Fire as the character Kim Tae-do. He also made his foray into Chinese television with his role on V-Love, the Chinese adaptation of the American hit teen drama series Gossip Girls. His other works on Chinese television include The Beloved and Lovers & Movies, both in 2015. These helped to grow his audience across the whole of Asia.

Kim Bum started to increasingly show his acting maturity and versatility with a role in the action thriller series Hidden Identity (2015). He had a recurring role as Cha Gun-woo on the series for a total of 15 episodes. He followed this up with another thriller project – Mrs. Cop, the following year, appearing in 16 episodes.

In 2018, the actor joined the cast of Detective K: Secret of the Living Dead. This was the third movie in the Detective K comedy-mystery movie series.

This was given at the SBS Drama Awards for his work on as Lee Jang Suk on the romantic comedy Dream. In the same year, he also received the Andre Kim Best Male Star Award. The actor has had his fair share of relationships and heart brakes on the road to success. In November 2013, the public got wind of the news that Kim Bum was in a relationship with his Goddes of Fire co-star Moon Geun-young. The news soon followed of their breakup on May 15, 2014. They had been together for only 7 months. The representative of both actors confirmed the news, stating that Kim and Moon were still good friends.

In March 2018, it was revealed that he was back in the dating circle, this time with South Korean actress Oh Yeon-seo. This too did not last and they split a few months after. Kim Bum is also rumored to have dated South Korean musician Eun-ji Jung, and his Boys Over Flowers co-star Kim So-eun, but these were never substantiated. The actor is currently focused on his career and is not in any relationship or marriage at the moment.
