Le’Veon Bell is an American professional football player in the National Football League (NFL). He played football, basketball, and ran track in high school for Groveport Madison High School in Groveport, Ohio, then developed further at the Michigan State University playing football for the Michigan State Spartans football team.

Le’Veon is an Aquarian as he was born on February 18, 1992. His birthplace was listed as Reynoldsburg, Ohio. Bell is known to have been raised by his mother Lisa A. Bell, a single parent who suffered financially at the time. In his family are his two sisters and two brothers who also play football.

He began attending high school at Groveport Madison High School where he was exceptional as a running back for the Groveport Cruisers football team. By his senior year, the lad was selected to the first-team All-Ohio Capital Conference Ohio Division and considered a two-star recruit by ESPN.com. With an open scholarship available at Michigan State University for a running back and many other outrightly eligible students getting into trouble, Le’Veon Bell got the offer for a place in the Michigan State Spartans football program.

He played with the Spartans from 2010 to 2012. As it happened, he decided to forgo his senior year so as to be eligible for the 2013 NFL Draft. While at Michigan, he played a total of 40 games starting 19 with a rushing record of Att – 671, Avg – 5.0, TD – 33, Avg/G – 83.7. His receiving stats were 531 yards with a 6.8 average while he recorded 11 kick returns of 219 yards averaging 19.9.

Le’Veon Bell was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second round (48th overall) of the 2013 NFL Draft. Bell was the second running back to be selected in the draft behind Bengals Giovani Bernard (37th overall). He committed to papers for a four-year rookie contract worth $4.12 million with $2.27 million guaranteed and a signing bonus of $1.37 million with the Steelers on June 3, 2013.

Injury Status and Why He Was Suspended

The Michigan Spartan prodigy began his rookie season with a mid-foot sprain he picked up from a pre-season game which saw him miss the first three games of the season. He made his debut against the Minnesota Vikings on September 29, 2013, at Wembley Stadium. Le’veon Bell recorded his first career touchdown in this match and kept an impressive form throughout the season. He recorded 244 carries, with 860 rushing yards, 45 receptions for 399 yards and 8 rushing touchdowns.

Coming into the 2014 season, Bell broke into an All-Pro recording his career high 290 carries, 854 receiving yards, 8 rushing touchdowns, 83 receptions, 1,361 rushing yards and 3 receiving touchdowns. He was named to the Pro Bowl in this season.

His 2015 season was characterized with his suspension from the league following an arrest with then fellow teammate LeGarrette Blount for driving under influence and possessing marijuana. On November 1, 2015, Bell had a season-ending torn MCL injury in a match against the Cincinnati Bengals from a tackle with linebacker Vontaze Burfict. The 2016 season started for him in like manner following his suspension for substance abuse in the first three games. He would also suffer a groin injury in a championship game loss to the New England Patriots in the second quarter.

Bell has seemingly turned a new leaf as he has not had any suspension of late. Also, he has stayed off major injuries since the last one he had.

The Pittsburgh Steelers nevertheless has placed the franchise tag on him twice; the first being on February 27, 2017, and the latter on March 6, 2018, valued at $14.54 million. It was reported that in 2016, Le’Veon Bell turned down a two-year deal worth $30 million and another five-year contract of $70 million. As learned, his reason for rejecting the first offer was for being overvalued. It is said that he equally rejected the second for not being properly valued.
