To say Lindsey Vonn is formidable is certainly putting it lightly. The lady is a member of the US Ski Team and an American World Cup alpine ski racer. She is one of the two female skiers to have won four World Cup overall championships – the other being Annemarie Moser-Pröll, a former Austrian World Cup alpine ski racer. Vonn won the first three World Cup overall championships consecutively in 2008, 2009 and 2010; she later won the fourth in 2012.

At the 2010 Winter Olympics, she received the gold medal in the downhill competition becoming the first American woman to do so. She has also won eight World Cup season titles in the downhill competition (which was record breaking), three titles in the combined and five titles in the Super G discipline.

More to that, Lindsey set a new record when she won her 20th World Cup crystal globe title, bypassing Sweden’s Ingemar Stenmark who had won 19 Crystal Globe titles. This solidified her place as one the best skiers in the world.

The Olympic Skier is also one of six women who has won world cup races in all the disciplines of alpine skiing. There are five disciplines which include Super-G, Super Combined, Slalom, Giant Slalom and Downhill. She has also won 81 world cup races, setting an all-time women’s record. Currently, only Sweden’s Ingemar Stemark (who has 86 world cup wins) is ahead of her.

Undoubtedly, Lindsey is the most successful American Skier and one of the most successful in the world. As at the time of this report, she has two world championship gold medals, three world championship silver medals, Olympic gold medals, four overall world cup titles and Olympic bronze medals – she’s a force to reckoned with, isn’t she?

However, Vonn, as with most great athletes, has been occasionally sidelined by injuries she sustained over the years. She had to miss out on most of 2013 and 2014 seasons due to injuries. While she was in recovery though, she worked for NBC News as a correspondent for the 2014 winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Thanks to her superwoman achievements, in 2010, she was awarded the United States Olympic Committee’s sportswoman of the year award, as well as the Laureus Sportswoman of the Year award.
