Lisa Salters was born March 6, 1966, with the sun sign Pisces in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania and that is where she was raised throughout her childhood. She was raised as a Christian by her parents even though there is no information about her parents or if she has any siblings. The former collegiate women’s basketball player has American nationality and belongs to the Afro-American ancestry. For her high school education, Lisa attended Upper Merion Area High School, King of Prussia and she was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame. After high school, she went to Pennsylvania State University, where she studied broadcast journalism and graduated in 1988 with her bachelor’s degree.

While at Penn State, she played for the female basketball team – The Lady Lions – despite her not-too-tall height. In fact, she became the shortest player to ever play for the University’s female basketball team. Her height was/is 5ft 2in (1.57m) and she still holds the record to date.

Lisa Salters began her journalism career in 1988 as a reporter for WBAL-TV in Baltimore after she graduated from college. She worked there for seven years – between 1988 to 1995 – before she was snapped up by ABC in 1995 as a news correspondent. Her time at ABC became a springboard in the profession as she was able to cover several major stories around the world. Lisa worked as the ABC News Los Angeles-based correspondent and covered the Matthew Shepard murder, the O.J Simpson murder case, the Oklahoma City bombing trial, the TWA Flight 800 crash among others. In 2000, she left news reporting to sports journalism as she joined ESPN after five years with ABC. She served as general assignment reporter and also appeared on the ESPN’s News Magazine as a correspondent.

Having played college basketball with the Penn State University female basketball team, the Lady Lions as a guard, her on-the-court experience comes in handy and is seen in the way she delivers her reports. This has helped her grow in her career. In ESPN, Lisa covered the 2002 FIFA World Cup in South Korea and Japan, the 2004 Olympic Games in Greece, the 2006 Winter Olympics Games in Italy and the 2006 NBA finals. She currently serves as host or co-host of some ESPN’s TV shows (both sports and non-sports related) such as Monday Night Football, Morning America, Outside the Lines and E:60.
