As the story unfolds, Adam breaks up with Rachael on account of her discovered infidelity. He then slowly develops a close rapport with his therapist Katherine (), as she and Kyle help him on his way to recovery.

This movie was a strong reminder of the infinite power of friendship and love to heal any wounds, physical or otherwise. 50/50 deserves every single digit of its 93 percent critic approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

2. Rocket Man (2019)

The title of this biopic was inspired by Elton John’s 1972 hit song “Rocket Man”. This movie follows the life of rock icon () and his transformation from his upbringing years as music prodigy Reginald Dwight, all the way to his establishment as the global music superstar Elton John. Rocketman chronicles all the highs and lows of Elton’s life in his journey of transformation and includes the best touchpoints in his evolution as a person and an artist. These include his relationship with his grandmother and his mother, Sheila (Bryce Dallas Howard, his friend Bernie Taupin (), and first partner and manager John Reid ().

Rocketman was a huge critical and commercial success, rated at 89 percent by critics on Rotten Tomatoes and bringing in $195.2 million at the box office from a production budget of $40 million.

3. Pete’s Dragon (2016)

This animated live-action film carries the same name as its 1977 Disney predecessor. However, it’s plot prices to be a reimagining of the original that, according to critics, manages to maintain the would and charm of the original movie.

Pete’s Dragon follows the story of Pete, a five-year-old boy who survives a car accident that kills his parents and is subsequently saved from a lack of wolves by an elusive green dragon, whom Pete would later name “Elliott”. Pete grows up with the dragon as his new family. However, in a few years, he is discovered by the daughter of Jack (Wes Bentley), a lumber mill owner. Pete’s Dragon tells how his discovery and that of Elliott put the town in a state of chaos and put them in serious danger while Jack, his daughter Natalie, and his girlfriend Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard) fight to set Elliott free and to reintroduce Pete to human society through their offer of family and friendship.

The movie banked more than double its $65 million production budget with a box office gross of $143.7 million. It also got a positive critics approval rating of 88 percent from 234 critics on Rotten Tomatoes.

4. The Help (2011)

This movie may be a period drama, but its story bears themes that will echo timelessly. The Help tells the story of an unlikely friendship between three women: Eugenia “Skeeter” Phelan (), Aibileen Clark (), and Minny Jackson ().

Set in the 1960s Mississippi and drenched in the theme of the Civil Rights Movement, the story tells the tale of Skeeter, an aspiring writer and journalist, and two maids, Aibileen and Minny as they come together to write a book exposing the horrors and racism that maids endure at the hands of their white families. 7. Manderlay (2006)

This is the second installation of the USA — Land of Opportunities trilogy by Lars Von Trier. In this Bryce Howard movie, the actress plays the lead role of Grace Mulligan, replacing who was Grace in the trilogy’s first movie, Dogville.

After leaving Dogville, Grace, her father, and a few gunmen happen upon a plantation where slavery is still very much alive even though the year is 1993. Grace is appalled and moves into action to see the slaves transitioned safely to freedom. However, her strategy for implementing this proves to be sometimes counter-productive and unconventional. This included her deciding to reverse the roles for slaves, making them owners of the plantation, and making their white owners work as slaves.

This avant-garde drama did not perform nearly as well as its predecessor, either critically or commercially. It earned a decent 50 approval rating but performed terribly at the box office. It recorded a return of $675,000 on a $14.2 million budget.

8. The Village (2004)

A small village known as Covington, in 19th-century Pennsylvania lives in terror of strange humanoid creatures that harbor the surrounding woods just beyond the walls of the village. But there appear to be secrets being held back that detail the entire truth of the village’s story.

After Chief Elder Edward (William Hurt), the father of Ivy Elizabeth Walker (Bryce Dallas Howard), let’s her leave the village to find medicine for her wounded love interest Lucius (), she discovers that the village and the outside world are not at all what the elders of the village have made them believe their whole lives.

The Village is one of Bryce’s earliest lead role movies and was her introduction to the limelight. Made by award-winning director , the movie performed well at the box office with a $256.7 million return on a $60 million budget. The period horror/psychological thriller has a below-par approval rating of 44 percent.

9. As You Like It (2006)

Bryce played Rosalind in this adaptation of one of Shakespeare’s most popular and funny plays of the same name. As You Like It differs from its original material in that it is set in a 19th-century European colony in Japan. And it follows the romantic adventure of Rosalind and Orlando De Boys () as they battle everything to stay in love. There’s enough infusion of wit and comic elements to keep the movie entertaining.
