American football cornerback Mackensie Alexander joined the Minnesota Vikings following the 2016 NFL Draft where he was selected by the Vikings in the 2nd round as the 54th overall pick. Before going professional, Alexander had a highly illustrious college career at Clemson University where he proved pivotal to the defense of the Clemson Tigers.

Mackensie Alexander Bio

Mackensie Alexander was born in Naples, Florida on November 12, 1993, alongside an identical twin brother Mackenro. His mother Marie and father Jean Alexandre are both from Haiti. Growing up, his parents were farmers and the family barely survived.

Mackensie had his high school education at Immokalee High School located in Collier County, Florida. As a three-sport high school athlete, he competed in football, wrestling, as well as track & field and excelled in all three sports. As a high school senior in 2012, Mackensie Alexander was ranked among Florida’s top 15 wrestlers for his weight category. As a sprinter, he won the 400-meter dash at the Collier County Athletic Championships as well as the 200-meter dash at the Bear Run Invitational.

In football, Alexander compiled 42 tackles and 3 interceptions, a performance which aided the team to a spot in the 2012 Florida AAAAA title game. His epic performance also earned him an all-state designation and he was named to feature in the prestigious U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Before the end of his high school football career, Alexander was the toast of many college recruiters as he was ranked among the most-promising defensive back prospects of his class in the entire United States.

In early 2012, the kid made a commitment to the University of Tennessee. However, he backtracked on this initial commitment following the exit of the team’s secondary coach Terry Joseph at the time. Alexander visited several schools between 2012 and early 2013. He eventually committed to Clemson University on National Signing Day 2013 becoming one of the highest-ranked signees in the history of the Clemson Tigers.

College Career

Mackensie Alexander redshirted his first season (2013) with the Tigers owing to a groin injury incurred during the preseason training. However, he lived up to expectations when he eventually made his debut in the 2014 season. The talented cornerback compiled 21 tackles, including 2 tackles for losses, 6 passes deflected with 1 fumble recovery in 766 snaps, which is the highest number of snaps by a Clemson Tigers freshman. He also posted 37 quarterback sacks with 2 touchdowns. Mackensie Alexander also made history as the first freshman cornerback in Tigers’ history to feature in all 13 games of a season. The talented cornerback earned Freshman All-American designation as well as first-team All-ACC (Atlantic Coast Conference) honors.

In his sophomore season (2015), Alexander had an even more brilliant season as he shut down every receiver he faced in his entire playing time for the season. He helped the team to a 14-1 record which earned them a spot in the final of the 2016 College Football Playoff National Championship in Phoenix, Arizona. However, Alexander’s time in this all-important final game was cut short due to a hamstring injury incurred in the semifinals of the championship and the Tigers eventually lost the game to the Alabama Crimson Tide. At the end of the season, Mackensie Alexander was named third-team Sophomore All-American and also earned first-team All-Conference honors. In January 2016, Alexander announced his decision to enter for the 2016 NFL Draft forgoing the remaining period of his college eligibility.

Mackenro Alexander is the identical twin of Vikings star cornerback Mackensie Alexander. Just like his famous brother, Mackenro Alexander is an athlete and also played college football. He spent the first 2 seasons of his collegiate career with the Auburn Tigers of Auburn University and the Northeast Mississippi Community College Tigers.

He eventually transferred to Iowa State University where he spent his last 2 seasons of college football with the Iowa State Cyclones football team. Mackenro Alexander went undrafted during the 2017 NFL Draft. However, he was invited to the rookie minicamp of the Minnesota Vikings in May 2018.
