Madison, apart from being an Olympian, is also a three-time world champion and has three gold medals all to herself. She has competed both in the U.S. Secret Classic, National Championships, PAn American Championships and also in NCAA women gymnastics team, and in all she has proved herself indeed a champion.

Madison Kocian Bio, Age

June 15, 1997, is the birthdate of one of the USA’s national gymnastics team, Madison Taylor Kocian born in Dallas, Texas. Her parents discovered their daughter’s innate gymnastic skills and put her in a class at a young age. Madison would usually climb out of her crib prompting her parents to enroll her in a gymnastics class where she can properly harness her strength.

As a child, she loved hanging on bars and using her strength to do pullovers. She was enrolled in World Olympic Gymnastics Academy (WOGA) in Plano, Texas and her folks began taking her there for her training. WOGA, which is owned by the gymnastics coach, Valeri Liukin, was the place where Olympic all-around champions, Carly Patterson and Nastia Liukin also trained.

Carly and Nastia were early inspirations for Madison and she even considers Nastia, who is also her role model her big sister. Her early memories of gymnastics include her fifth birthday celebration which was celebrated at a local gym, the ASI gymnastic hall and watching Carly Patterson on TV during the 2004 Olympics.

Madison besides training in the same club with her role models, they also attended the same school, Spring Creek Academy in Plano, Texas. She belonged to the 2015 class and committed to attend the University of California, Los Angeles in 2016 where she is a member of the NCAA Women’s gymnastics.

Early Career

At the age of 12, Madison was named to the US Junior National Team in 2009. She was selected to compete for Team USA at the Top Gym Junior competition in Charleroi, Belgium. There, she competed in the all-around competitions, the uneven bar and the balance beam winning a medal each for those categories.

Her junior career, however, ended in 2012, the same year she had a wrist injury.

Uneven Bars

This category seems to be her area of specialty and her best event where she displays her awestriking skills, though she has proved on countless occasion to be an all-around champion. With her debut in her senior career in 2013, Madison earned a silver medal at the Secret U.S Classic, held in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

In 2014, at the national level, she competed on balance beam and uneven bars and won a silver on the bar, placing fifth on the beam. During the event finals at the Pan American Championships, Madison Kocian came second on the bars with a score of 14.825.

At the 2015 Secret U.S. Classic, the gymnast finished first on uneven bars with a score of 15.600. She had the 2012 Olympic all-around champion and uneven bars finalist Gabby Douglas and Bailie Key trailing behind her.

The year 2015 saw her joining the US Senior National Gymnastic Team to the World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland where she anchored the team on uneven bars toward its third consecutive team title. The star gymnast qualified third on the uneven bars final and scored a 15.366. This score placed her in a historic four-way tie for individual gold medals alongside Russian’s Viktoria Komova and Daria Spiridonova, and China’s Fan Yilin.

This feat placed her in the league of the American world champions on uneven bars and conferred on her the third uneven bars world champion from her gym, WOGA.

On August 14, 2016, Madison Kocian became the second American Olympic medalist on the uneven bars after her model, Natsia Luikin in 2008, following her silver medal win in the uneven bars event final.

True to her dreams to become like her idols, Carly and Natsia, Madison became the third WOGA Olympic champion after them. Even in her collegiate career, she continues to come in first in her favorite event.

She hardly misses the first three places in this event and has not had any recorded injury from it. The beam, however, has been an event where she recorded the most injury ranging from a broken or twisted wrist to injured ankle.

Team Competition

In the 2013 Pan American Championships in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, Madison competed and helped the USA team win the first place.

At the 2014 World Championships in Nanning, China, she contributed to the national team’s gold-medal finish by competing in the team final on the bars.

She also competed in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio De Janeiro in the uneven bar event placing first and qualifying for the finals. During the finals, she anchored the USA team on the bars and contributed 15.933 points to their total. That became the second consecutive team gold at Olympic games.

The team made up of Madison Kocian, Gabby Douglas, Aly Raisman, Simone Biles and Laurie Hernandez called themselves the Final Five being that they will be the last five-girl team in an Olympics.
