Looking at her ever smiling face and cheery personality, with her statuesque figure, one could easily mistake her as a model set for an ad campaign or a walk down the runway. Margaret Brennan is, however, not a model. She is in the business of gleaning facts from everyday events and happenings and relating it to her viewers. Simply put, she is a journalist.

Margaret Brennan Bio (Age)

Margaret Brennan was born on March 26th, 1980 in Stamford, Connecticut, United States. Her parents have been identified as Edward and Jane Brennan. It is, however, not known if she grew up with any siblings or as an only child. She holds American nationality but her family has Irish roots.

After she obtained her secondary education requirements needed for further studies from the Convent of the Sacred Heart located in Greenwich, Connecticut where she graduated with honors in 1998, Brennan proceeded to the University of Virginia. At the university, she carried on with her academic excellence and graduated in 2002 with the highest distinction. She bagged a B.A. in Foreign Affairs and Middle East Studies with a minor in Arabic language.

Moreover, she was named an Emmerich-Wright scholar for her thesis and studied abroad on a Fulbright-Hays Grant at Yarmouk University in Irbid, Jordan. She would later receive an honorary doctor of letters degree from Niagara University; this was for her work in international affairs and in 2015.

In 1998, as a freshman in college, Brennan met Yado Yakub, a Syrian-American and a senior then. At that time, she thought he partied too much while Yakub viewed her as too conservative and serious. While she went on to become a successful journalist, he became a lawyer and a Marine. In 2013, fifteen years after their first meeting, a chance encounter brought them together. Margaret Brennan bumped into Yakub while walking her dog in DC and the sparks began to fly.

They clicked right away and began dating. Two years later, in April 2015, the beautiful journalist walked down the aisle to meet her handsome groom, Major Ali Iyad ‘Yado’ Yakub. They attended the White House Correspondents’ dinner on April 28, 2018. Two days after, she appeared on The Late Show with where she announced that they were expecting their first child in September 2018. On the 11th day of the said month, the lovely couple welcomed their first child, a boy named Eamon.

Their son’s name pays homage to both of their cultures. It means “guardian” in Irish and “righteous” in Arabic.

Salary and Career Achievements

The same year she graduated from college, Margaret Brennan launched her professional career at CNBC as a producer. She landed her first on-air contract as a correspondent in 2006, covering the financial crisis with a focus on consumer issues. She also conducted interviews and regularly covered changing consumer trends for the network.

Then, she moved to Bloomberg in 2009 where she anchored InBusiness with Margaret Brennan, a weekday program broadcast live from the New York Stock Exchange. During her time on the network, she did live broadcasts from different locations including Riyadh, Dubai, Cairo, London, Dublin, Abu Dhabi, and Davos. Brennan also covered such top news stories as the European debt crisis, the BP oil spill, the resignation of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak live from Tahrir Square.

Moreover, she interviewed such personalities as the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) Christine Lagarde, investor , former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Ireland’s Prime Minister, and Dubai’s ruler during their respective debt crises.

She left the network in 2012 to pursue new opportunities, joining the CBS News team in July as a News correspondent. Based in Washington, Brennan primarily covered national security and foreign policy for the network. She also reported on the White House across the and administrations for CBS programs, covering the state department. Margaret Brennan also filled in on CBS This Morning, 60 Minutes, and CBS Evening News before landing her current gig as moderator of the CBS political affairs show, Face The Nation in February 2018.

Brennan has not only received fame and fortune from her journalistic career, but she has also been honored with prestigious awards for being good at what she does. While her career was still in its infantile stage, she was named one of the top journalists under 30 by the NewsBios/TJFR Group in 2003. In 2010, she was awarded the Fulbright Award for international understanding. She was also part of the CBS News team honored with a 2012-2013 Alfred I. Dupont-Columbia Award for coverage of the Newtown tragedy.

In addition, Irish America magazine named her one of the top Irish Americans and one of the top 100 Irish-Americans in business and in media. Brennan receives an annual salary of $300k and her net worth has been estimated to be $5 million.
