During his senior High School days, he was named college football prospect and Rivals.com even ranked him #1 tight end and #8 best player in the 2005 prospect class. He was recruited by Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Miami, LSU, Duke, and Kansas but he chose to play for Texas A&M, despite having originally committed himself to play for Miami.

As a freshman at Texas A&M University, he recorded three touchdowns and eighteen passes for one hundred and sixty-two yards. After his junior season that ended with 49 receptions for 587 yards and four touchdowns, an NFL committee approached Martellus Bennett, informing him of an opportunity for him to be selected in the NFL Draft, he indicated interest and skipped his senior season.

In 2008, Dallas Cowboy drafted Martellus Bennett in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft after trading Anthony Fasano. During the preseason, Bennett had problems learning the team’s defensive styles that he was described as a lazy and unmotivated player by Hard Knocks but that soon changed as he began to improve tremendously.

He would soon agree to a four-year contract and was given the #2 tight position. In his seventh week with the team, he recorded his first touchdown on a 34-yard pass, he ended his rookie season with a total of four touchdowns, 20 receptions for 283 yards.

Although he signed a four-year deal with the Chicago Bears at the beginning of the 2013 season which was meant to keep him with the team till the end of the 2016 season, he was traded to the New England Patriots in the 2016 NFL Draft in exchange for Deiondre’ Hall and he became part of the Patriots team that won Super Bowl LI in 2017.

After the Super Bowl LI victory, Martellus Bennett signed a three-year contract with the Green Bay Packers worth $21 million, following the team’s inability to reach an agreement with Jared Cook who was bent on signing on to Oakland Raiders. The Packers had to let Bennett go in November 2017 due to his failure to disclose a medical condition.

The following day, he was claimed off waivers by the England Patriots and it was revealed that he has been diagnosed with tears in the rotator cuff and labrum in his shoulder – with what the diagnosis revealed, he had to undergo physical exam before joining the team. The Patriots reached Super Bowl LII without Bennett who was benched as a result of shoulder and hamstring injuries but lost to Philadelphia Eagles.
