This multi-talented star was born Martin Hayter Short on the 25th day of March 1950 in Hamilton, Ontario. His mother Olive Grace (née Hayter) was a musician while his father Charles Patrick Short was a business executive.

He is the youngest of his parents’ 5 children and they were all raised in the Roman Catholic faith. His father is originally from Ireland and his mother has English and Irish ancestry.

He had his high school education at Westdale Secondary School in Hamilton, Ontario and for college, he attended McMaster University, also in Hamilton.

Martin Short was quite a late bloomer as he did not take interest in showbiz until after college. His first acting role was in the stage production of the musical Godspell in 1971 and after this debut performance, there has been no turning back for the natural entertainer.
