The celebrated American football quarterback for the NFL’s Detroit Lions, Matt Cassel, made his professional debut with the New England Patriots. The young athlete was drafted in the seventh round of the 2005 draft. Since then, the renowned quarterback has played for several teams including the Kansas City Chiefs, Buffalo Bills, Minnesota Vikings, Tennessee Titans and Dallas Cowboys.

Prior to going pro, he played college football at the University of Southern California. He had also earned a letterman jacket during his years at Chatsworth High School, as a standout in both baseball and football. According to ESPN’s Tom Lemming’s Top 100, he got the 8th ranking as a quarterback and 53rd overall of the top high school players in the US during his senior years. Not a bad way to start a career.

Biography & Age

Matthew Brennan Cassel was born to Emmy-winning set decorator Barbara Cassel and Greg Cassel on the 17th of May 1982 in Northridge, Los Angeles, California. He was raised by his parents in Northridge, LA, alongside his two brothers – Jack and Justin and a sister, Amanda. The 1994 Northridge earthquake which occurred when the young athlete was 11 affected his family home, trapping his dad under a marble column and flooded their house with water from their swimming pool. Consequently, his family was forced to relocate since their home was condemned by the earthquake. Matt’s parents got divorced when he was 14 and his father died on the 8th of December 2008.

Another notable incident in his family house was the fire outbreak that happened on the 26th of January 2012 in Loch Lloyd, Missouri. Matt, who was the first to sight smoke coming out of the house, ran in to alert the others. Luckily, the entire family came out of the ugly incident alive.

Matt Cassel passed through Chatsworth High School, as previously mentioned, where he recorded outstanding performances in both football and baseball, resulting in recommendations and accolades that accompanied his achievements. After graduating from Chatsworth High School, the rising star proceeded to the University of Southern California where he majored in Communication. Matt was also a college football player which led to him getting noticed and as a result, was drafted into the NFL in 2005.

Matt Cassel has two brothers; Jack, his older brother, was a renowned pitcher for the Houston Astros and the San Diego Padres while younger brother, Justin, who is also a pitcher was with the Chicago White Sox Farm System for six seasons. When he was younger, Matt once appeared in Freshman Year which is an HBO Family Program when his younger brother, Justin, was featured as a student on the show.

The famous footballer is married to his college sweetheart, Lauren Killian, who was a volleyball player at the University of Southern California. The couple met during their years at USC and tied the knot in February 2007 with as Matt’s best man.

Matt Cassel currently has four children with Lauren – Quinn Cassel, a daughter who was born in 2010; Matt Cassel Jr, a son; Ella Cassel, a daughter, and Clayton Cassel, a son who was born in 2015.

Lauren Killian, Matt’s wife, is 6 feet 1-inch tall and like her husband, she is a talented and skillful athlete and was born and brought up in LA. She made her mark as a national champion while playing volleyball at the University of Southern California where she served as the team captain and clinched the national title in 2002 which led to a presidential handshake with the then president of the United States . She was also named as the team captain twice and she came in 10thplace in the all-time rank in the University of Southern California school history. The volleyball player was also elected to the Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention team.
