Matt Kalil is an NFL player, who currently plays the offensive tackle position for the Carolina Panthers. Like many other players, Kali went through the ranks of playing in high school, college football before going professional with the NFL.

After his college career which ended with him being named to several All-American teams, and becoming the twelveth Trojan offensive lineman to win the Morris Trophy, Kalil was selected by the Minnesota Vikings in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Matt Kalil – Bio

Matt Kalil was born as Matthew Francis Kalil in Corona, California on the 6th of July 1989 to parents – Frank and Cheryl Kalil.  Matt actually comes from a family of football players, so it isn’t out of place that he grew up loving the game.

He began playing football from his high school days at Servite High School, Anaheim, California. In 2005, he made the Cal-Hi Sports All-State Sophomore first team as a sophomore. In 2006, he also made Cal-Hi Sports All-State Underclass first team, Cal-Hi Sports All-State first team, L.A Times All-Star, All-Trinity League Co-Lineman of the Year, as well as All-CIF Pac-5 Division first team.

During his senior season, Rivals.com projected him as a 5-star recruit and he was also listed as the number three offensive tackle in his set. In 2008, he participated in the  U.S. Army All-American Bowl and among the West squad that featured another offensive lineman. Asides football, Matt also participated in both track and field events in high school.

College/NFL Career

Matt Kalil began his college at the University of Southern California (USC). After redshirting his first year, he began his sophomore season as a backup to Tyron Smith at right tackle and would later replace Charles Brown at left tackle.

He also played on the defensive line in games against very tough teams and blocked a point after touchdown against Notre Dame. During his junior season, he maintained his position as the starting left tackle and his outstanding performances meant he was named to several All-American teams, becoming the twelveth Trojan offensive lineman to win the Morris Trophy. He was also a semifinalist in the 2011 Lombardi Award.

After his senior season, he was projected as the best offensive tackle prospect for the 2012 Draft and after an amazing performance at the NFL Combine, Matt was selected by the Minnesota Vikings as the number three pick. He became the first offensive lineman, the team is selecting in the first round after Bryant McKinnie in 2002.

Matt Kalil also became the 5th USC offensive lineman to be selected in the top five of an NFL Draft. The other four are Ron Yary, Marvin Powell, Anthony Muñoz, and Tony Boselli. He signed a four-year contract with the franchise that kept him with the team till the end of the 2016 season.

During his years with the Viking, he was selected to be part of the Pro Bowl after Redskins offensive tackle, got injured during a fight at a nightclub. Kalil spent the later part of his 2016 season on the bench following a hip injury.

In March 2017, he signed a 5-year contract with the Carolina Panthers, the same team his elder brother Ryan Kalil also plays for. They became the 3rd set of brothers to play on the same offensive line in the history of the NFL and the 1st set of brothers to do it in twenty-four years. He started all sixteen games at left tackle in his first season with the Panthers.

Mom, Parents, Siblings

Matt’s father, Frank Kalil, played college football as a center for both Arizona and Arkansas before being drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 1982. He would later play for Arizona Wranglers of the USFL in 1983 and for the Houston Gamblers in 1984. Kalil’s older brother Ryan also plays for the Carolina Panthers as a center and he was also an All-American at Southern California. Matt also has a sister Danielle, who sang the national anthem at the Vikings–Panthers game in October 2013, that featured two of her brothers.

Kalil’s mom is Cheryl Kalil and there isn’t so much info online about her. However, the incredibly attractive mother of three grown-ups made it to the news in 2012 after she appeared at the NFL Draft alongside her son, looking all young and sexy. Her looks got the whole internet talking.

Kalil is happily married to former beauty queen and model Haley O’Brien. The couple got married in a secret ceremony on a private beach in Kauai in July 2015 and a year later, they had a formal ceremony where they announced their one year union before friends and family.

Haley won 2010 Miss Minnesota Teen USA, 2012 Miss Collegiate America, 2014 Miss Minnesota USA beauty pageant, and a semi-finalist at the 2014 Miss USA Beauty pageant.

If you see Kalil for the first time, the first thing you will probably take note of is his intimidating height. He stands at the height of 6″7 in (2.01 m), with a well-built body that weighs 143 kg, that is 315 lbs. His arm length is 34½ inches and his hand size is 103/8 inches.
