Maya Jama’s Bio

Today, she is a celebrated rising television presenter many are looking up to, but the beginnings of her life were rough. She was born to a Somalian father and a Swedish mother in England, specifically Bristol on August 14, 1994. She was raised in the same city alone by her mother due to her father’s continued absence from her life as a result of his criminal and violent lifestyle. Under the direction of her mother, she attended Cotham School.

Maya Jama did not attend a university because her career started very early. As a teenager who always had interesting in presenting, she began presenting for JumpOff’s weekly music video countdown before she got a job on TRACE Sports, an affiliate of Sky Broadcasting Company and as a weekday DJ on Rinse FM.

Her current fame and rising profile is the resultant effect of experiences she gained working for different broadcasting programs like Copa90 where she hosted a travelogue titled Maya’s FIFA World Cup Cities for the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. She was also a presenter for MTV’s The Wrap Up. After her Copa 90’s gig, she gained a lot of popularity and ended up hosting other shows like Channel 5’s documentary, Swipe Right for Sex.

Her rising profile was acknowledged by Hello Magazine in 2016 who gave the award for Rising Star of the Year. In 2017, she co-hosted the prestigious MOBO Awards and appeared as part of the panel on ITV’s Loose Women. Also in 2017, she has turned out to be one of her most significant years, she hosted a Saturday Night Game Show, Cannonball for ITV.

In 2018, she got her biggest hosting and presenting gigs yet. She joined BBC Radio 1 as part of their airstaff, co-presenting Radio 1’s Greatest Hits. Having worked with MTV in the early stages of her career, she got another opportunity by hosting True Love or True Lies alongside Danny Dyer. She is hosting The Circle with Alice Levine, a Channel 4 show.

Outside of her primary career as a presenter, she is also a fashion model who has worked with brands like GAP, Adidas and Freya. For Freya, she is also a global ambassador and a host for their podcast, When Life Gives You Melons.

Partner or Boyfriend – Stormzy

Maya Jama has been dating (Michael Ebenazer Omari Owuo) for three years although the couple only made public their relationship after a year of dating. As one of the biggest musicians in the UK, their relationship has furthered helped her popularity although, from red carpet pictures, the two thus seem to be very in love with each other with Stormzy once releasing a song about her as a 22nd birthday present.

The two have also been rumored to be engaged but nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

Parents

Maya Jama was raised by her mother because of her dad’s perchance for getting in jail for most of her young life. She spent a lot of time during her childhood years going to see her father in prison. In a recent documentary, she explored her relationship with her father and how her father’s brother took care of her while her father spent most of her formative years in jail.

She has one brother, Omar.
