Michael David Stevens is one of the two children of his teaching assistant mother and a chemical engineer father, alongside his sister Melissa. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri on the 23rd day of January 1986 but grew up in Stilwell, Kansas after his family moved to the town in 1991.

With well read folks and a rich background in science, he developed a passion for knowledge and delighted in acquiring it. As a student of Blue Valley High School, Stevens also developed his comic personality. He took part in informative speech and drama club programs. Due to his seemingly insatiable hunger for knowledge, he was nicknamed polymath by his father.

Following his high school graduation, he proceeded to the University of Chicago where his interests further widened to accommodate video production and editing. He edited and produced his first video on YouTube with the username pooplicker888 in 2007.
