Mickie James is an American professional wrestler, country singer, songwriter, and model. She first delved into professional wrestling as a valet way back in 1999 under the stage name ‘Alexis Laree’. Mickie went on to train in several developmental camps to improve on her wrestling abilities and eventually landed a contract with the WWE in 2003.

In her first stint with the WWE, Mickie James reigned as WWE Women’s Champion for a total of 5 times. She also won the WWE Divas Championship at the 2009 Night of Champions event. The former WWE Women’s Champion returned to the Independent wrestling circuit after she was released from the WWE in October 2010. After a 6-year hiatus, she returned to the WWE brand; this was in December 2016.

Mickie Laree James was born on August 31, 1979, in Richmond, Virginia, to Stuart James and Sandra Knuckles. Her father worked as a landscaper before becoming a basketball coach. On the other hand, her mother worked as a school teacher as well as a realtor. Mickie James was raised alongside one sister, however, after her parents’ divorce, she earned 5 half-siblings.

Mickie James was raised in Montpelier, Virginia. She had her high school education at Patrick Henry High School graduating in 1997. In addition to her love for equestrian sports, Mickie James equally developed an interest in wrestling from a pretty young age. She also trained at a professional wrestling school in Washington, D.C.

James delved into pro wrestling in 1999 as a valet under the moniker ‘Alexis Laree’. She equally served as manager to several independent wrestlers before marking her own wrestling debut in March 1999 in an intergender tag team match. In addition, James equally worked as a waitress and a glamour model to support her income. She eventually joined the TNA (Total Nonstop Action Wrestling) as a regular performer in the early 2000s.

Her WWE Career

In August 2003, Mickie James landed a developmental contract with the WWE after which she spent the first few months training at Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW). She made TV appearances for the OVW in several tag-team matches in 2004. Eventually, Mickie marked her professional WWE debut on an episode of WWE Raw on October 24, 2005, under her real name.

On April 2, 2006, she won her first Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 22. She eventually lost the title on August 14 to fellow WWE star Lita. Mickie would later defeat Lita on November 26 at Survivor Series (2006) to reclaim the Women’s Championship title. After losing the title on February 24, 2007, James went on to reclaim it for the 3rd time on April 24. Her 3rd stint as WWE Women’s Champion is recorded as the shortest reign in history as she was promptly defeated in a rematch on that same day.

A year later, Mickie James defeated Beth Phoenix to claim her 4th Women’s Championship. She successfully defended the title at Judgement Day (2008) before losing it to Phoenix at SummerSlam (2008). On July 26, 2009, she won her first WWE Divas Championship at the Night of Champions event, becoming the 2nd WWE Diva to win both the Women’s and the Divas titles. She eventually lost the title in October 2009 after which she was traded from Raw to the WWE SmackDown brand.

On January 31, 2010, Mickie James defeated then Women’s Champion Michelle McCool at the Royal Rumble event to win her 5th Women’s Championship. McCool later reclaimed the title on February 26 in a match officiated by special guest referee . All efforts by James to reclaim the title were unsuccessful. She was eventually released by the WWE on April 22, 2010. Upon her departure from the WWE, Mickie James competed in the independent wrestling circuit from 2010 to 2016.

After a 6-year hiatus from WWE, Mickie James landed a multi-million contract with the brand in December 2016. On April 10, 2017, she was drafted to the WWE Raw as part of the 2017 WWE Superstar Shake-up.

1. Mickie James stands at a height of 5 feet 4 inches (163 cm). As evidenced by her TV appearances, James sports a fit physique and has maintained her body weight at 57 kg (125 lb).

2. Mickey may be a professional wrestler right now, however, she plans on becoming a horse trainer and to run her own farm when she retires. Growing up, she spent much of her leisure time in her grandmother’s horse farm which birthed in her a keen interest in all things equestrian. She is also a big fan of equine sports and currently owns 3 Morgan horses named Rhapsody, Bunny, and Casanova.

3. She is married to fellow pro wrestler Nick Aldis a.k.a. Magnus. On September 25, 2014, the couple welcomed their first child, a son named Donovan Patrick Aldis. They got engaged in December 2014 and eventually tied the knot on New Year’s Eve 2015.

4. A star of many talents, Mickie James is also a well-established country singer. Her debut album Strangers & Angels was released on iTunes on May 18, 2010. Her second studio effort Somebody’s Gonna Pay was released on May 7, 2013, and it debuted at number 15 on the Billboard Heatseekers charts.
