Mike Moustakas is a well known American Baseball player popularly called ‘Moose’ and currently plays for the Milwaukee Brewers in the position of a third baseman. He is said to have groomed his career right from his high school days where he was voted as Cal-Hi Sports’ Player of the Year. He also landed the title – Baseball America’s High School Player of the Year and was a member of the USA Today All-USA high school baseball team in 2007.

Mike started his professional baseball career when he was selected by the Kansas City Royals as the second overall pick of the 2007 baseball draft.

The vibrant baseball player was born in California on the 11th day of September 1988 and he had his high school education at Chatsworth High School, Chatsworth, Los Angeles in California. During his high school days, Mike was not just a member of his school’s baseball team but he also assisted them in winning competitions like the West Valley League championships which they won four times and two California Interscholastic Federation City titles.

Mike also had an interest in football and he went ahead and played for the Chancellors but in his debut game, he sustained an ankle injury that made him not to participate in any sport for three months but the good news was that he was able to recover and after that, he decided to concentrate on playing baseball full time.

In 2006, Mike Moustakas was named to the USA Baseball Junior National Team and he also participating in the World Junior Championship that was held in Cuba. The next year, he was listed on the USA Today All-USA high school baseball team. Due to his brilliant performance in high school, he became a highly sought after player and was granted college scholarship to the University of South Carolina which he rejected as he had the interest to join the professional league in 2007.

MLB Career

Mike Moustakas was selected as the second overall pick in the first round of the MLB 2007 draft. Although he played exceptionally during his early days, Mike still struggled to fit in the league properly which subsequently resulted in a drastic reduction in his hits. However, by the next year, he picked up the pace again and his excellent performances earned him Texas League Player of the Year and he made history as he recorded 3 home runs alongside 11 RBIs in a single game. Ultimately, he emerged the winner of the Joe Bauman Home Run Award for highest runs that year.

In 2011, he got a new contract with the Kansas City and played his first match on the night of July 16th, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He ended that particular season an average of .263 batting, including 5 home runs and 30 RBI’s. In the following year, he signed a one year contract with the Kansas City on the 18th of February. He played 47 matches in a stretch without any mistake and ended that year with .242 batting for the season, .296 OBP, 20 home runs alongside 73 RBIs. In the subsequent year, he led all the third baseman in the American league, making only 16 Mistakes. Mike Moustakas was chosen to participate in the All-Star Game in 2015. However, he did not play many games in the following season due to the right knee injury he sustained in a clash with Alex Gordon, who also plays in the same team with him. In the subsequent year, he was awarded the All-Start Final Vote for the second time.

Mike Moustakas renewed his contract with the Royals which was supposed to last for a year but he ended up with the Milwaukee Brewers in an exchange deal.

Mike Moustakas signed a one year contract with the Kansas City Royals worth $6,500,000. He earns a base salary of $5,500,000 including an incentive of $2,200,000, making his gross salary to amount to  $7,700,000. However, due to Mike being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers, his take-home salary was adjusted to  $1,922,050.

Mike did not just become a sportsman by chance as he came from a family that has a history of playing sports. His father also called Mike Moustakas, played football for the UCLA during his years in college while his uncle, Tom Robson was a former hitting coach for the New York Mets and also played in the MLB.

The American baseball player is married to Stephanie Moustakas whom he had been dating for about 4 years before finalizing their marital bonds on the 4th of January 2014. The couple is blessed with two children, a daughter Mila Constance and a son Michael Carter. Sources have it that Mike’s daughter’s middle name is in loving memory of his mother Connie whom he lost in 2015.
