The ESPN sportscaster has a stepdad named Dave Robertson – a Shadle Park high school basketball coach and winner of a state title in 1981. Neil spent his formative years at Spokane, Washington but it is not known whether he has siblings or is an only child.

Although he was named Neil Everett Morfitt at birth, he decided to stick to his middle name of Everett as a professional last name as a tribute to his deceased mum who usually called him by his first and middle name whenever he went out of line.
