Nick Saban Biography, Age

Saban’s full name is Nicholas Lou Saban Jr. He was born on October 31, 1951, in Fairmont, West Virginia, in the United States. His parents are Mary and Nick Lou Saban Sr.

Nick Saban was raised in Monongah, a small community in West Virginia. He attended Monongah High School, from where he proceeded to Kent State University to further his education.

He graduated from the prestigious university in 1973 with a bachelor’s degree in business. Not long after, he enrolled at Kent State Golden Flashes football team and graduated in 1975 with a master’s degree in sports administration from the Kent-based varsity.

Career 

The respected football coach started his career as a defensive back for Kent State under the tutelage of iconic coach Don James.

Saban was subsequently hired as a graduate assistant at Kent State by coach Don James and would later serve as an assistant coach at Syracuse (1977), West Virginia (1978 and 1979), Ohio State (1980 and 1981), Navy (1982), and Michigan State (1983 to 1987) in NCAA Division I-A.

Saban’s career breakthrough came on December 22, 1989, when he landed his first coaching job as a head coach at the University of Toledo.

He resigned as Toledo’s head coach in 1990, after one season to join the Cleveland Browns as its defensive coordinator under head coach Bill Belichick. His stint at Cleveland began in 1991 and ended in 1994 after four seasons.

Saban joined the Michigan State in 1995, performing wonders and improving the team’s fortune. He left Michigan State in 1999 to join the Louisiana State University as its 31st head football coach. He left at the end of the 2004 season to join the Miami Dolphins as its head coach.

The West Virginia-born resigned from Miami Dolphins in 2006 after recording his first losing season as a head coach. He became Alabama’s 27th head coach a day following a public announcement by Alabama University on January 3, 2007.

He still holds the position of the head coach of Alabama Crimson Tide football to date.

Nick Saban has been married for over forty-five years and counting. He got married to his wife, Terry Constable, on December 18, 1971.

Terry, who is also from West Virginia, met her husband when they were in seventh grade at a 4-H science camp. Their relationship, however, got into full swing, when Terry was teaching in West Virginia while Nick was studying at Kent State.

The pair eventually tied the knot after Nick returned home from school for Christmas break. Then 21-year-old Nick Saban got married to his beautiful wife, who was also 21 years old at the time, while in college.

The couple has two adopted children – a daughter, Kristen Saban and a son, Nicholas Saban. Nicholas is married to Kelse Laney. They welcomed their first child – daughter Amelie Saban – in December 2013.

His daughter, Kristen, is an Alabama Graduate and was a former student assistant for Nick’s team. She is married to Adam Setas, a fellow Alabama graduate and childhood sweetheart. They tied the knot in June 2015.

Currently, she works as an event manager at a Birmingham-based sports event planning organization called The Bruno Event Team.
